How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Phenomenal tee shot from Woods on the 10th - 380 yds and he knocks it on the green pin high

compoundup - 15 Jul 2005 16:19 - 4028 of 10502

391 yards apparently, compared to Olazabal's 288, amazing.

Incredible stuff!

1612: Tiger Woods lines up an eagle chance at the 380-yard par-four 10th, landing a huge tee shot onto the green.

Woods drives his 3rd par 4 in a row

Scripophilist - 15 Jul 2005 16:39 - 4031 of 10502

Tiger has just driven another green.

Ditto, at least we are both enjoying the golf.

flicking between the cricket and the golf - given up trading the horses for this afternoon.

Have a look at the chart on the surrey vs hampshire cricket match - i greened up at 1.08 and was tempted to turn it round - wish i had now

Tiger misses a birdie chance - He's human after all!

Fantastic moments at St Andrews as Nicklaus finishes his round.

Funny old game this trading - spent all afternoon barely trading as i couldnt see anything to trade - sit down to look at a few of the evening races and get a cracking drifter - made 3 times my afternoon profit on the 1 race lol

Well done it's funny like that isn't it.

Just removed my new head bandage this evening. Wish I hadn't its a mess. I hope it gets better than this. I don't think I realised just how bad my head injury was now I can see it clean. I feel lucky this evening to have not done worse after seeing that. I'll probably put something back on tomorrow before the kids see it.

Scrpit, Big boost in Halfords shares this week - anything to do with increased sales in helmets and bike repairs :-)

I am a walking advert for safety gear at the moment. Maybe I should sell my forehead on Ebay. Seems popular at the moment.

I'm all green on the Open by a heathly amount after laying Goosen twice. Such a wonderfull finish to the final day. I am going to leave it at that and watch the finale.

not turned betfair on today as decided just wanted to watch the final round without trading. Woods has been awesome, but no one managed to mount a challenge to him which was disappointing.

Well done re Goosen

Scripophilist - 17 Jul 2005 20:21 - 4043 of 10502

Would have been great for Monty to pull if off but with Woods in the lead never really looked like it.

see the tie rules have caused some probs on the cricket again tonight.

Surrey vs Warks in 20-20 qtr final - official result is a tie (based on Duckworth Lewis) according to ECB. The tie is then decided on a bowl out (crickets version of a penalty shoot out) and Surrey proceed to the semis (after sudden death). There was no tie market on this match.

Despite the match being officially a tie, Betfair have paid out on a Surrey win.

Just to confuse the issue, on the televised match (Lancs vs Derby) there was a tie market - so on the basis of the Surrey game, how exactly could the Lancs game end in a tie???

Scripophilist - 19 Jul 2005 08:48 - 4045 of 10502

ROFL, It's just not cricket is it. I have to say that it would seem sensible to add in all variations then its only the punters fault rather than all this finger pointing. What a mare.
