How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Harlosh - 27 Jul 2005 13:37 - 4071 of 10502

Roll on the footy season.

Fundamentalist - 27 Jul 2005 14:21 - 4072 of 10502

Anyone having probs with betfair not refreshing properly this afternoon ?

John - give it a rest - the footie season has only just finished - its cricket season!!!

Scripophilist - 27 Jul 2005 15:29 - 4073 of 10502

No problems over here today.

Harlosh - 27 Jul 2005 16:05 - 4074 of 10502

Saturday 13th August first premiership games.

Not a minute too soon Steve. Lol.

Fundamentalist - 27 Jul 2005 16:35 - 4075 of 10502

Still be three test matches to play - footbal shouldnt start till late september lol

bakko - 27 Jul 2005 17:02 - 4076 of 10502

Harlosh, I second your words re the football. Can't wait for it to start!

Since Wimbledon finished I've been rather quiet on Betfair. Got clobbered on the open golf and not been too hot on the cricket.

Resorted to spread betting the dow and footsie with moderate success over the last 2 weeks

Harlosh - 27 Jul 2005 17:17 - 4077 of 10502

Not much more than a couple of weeks Bak.

bakko - 27 Jul 2005 17:25 - 4078 of 10502

Yep, The countdown has already begun here!

Fundamentalist - 27 Jul 2005 20:02 - 4079 of 10502

For those of you desperate for the footie - are you trading Deportivo vs Newcastle in the inter two bob cup?

trading Warwickshire vs Kent myself

Fundamentalist - 27 Jul 2005 20:16 - 4080 of 10502

Now im green on deportivo - from a trading perspective then bring on the footie season

Fundamentalist - 27 Jul 2005 20:17 - 4081 of 10502

Newcastle sitting back and getting torn to shreds currently - wouldnt be surprised to see them lose by at least 2 if not 3 goals

Scripophilist - 27 Jul 2005 21:00 - 4082 of 10502

Can't believe Celtic have crashed 5-0! I like Strachan but surely a huge disaster to recover from?

Dil - 27 Jul 2005 21:04 - 4083 of 10502

I layed Celtic :-)

Scripophilist - 27 Jul 2005 21:07 - 4084 of 10502

I think Celtic laid themselves with that performance.

Scripophilist - 27 Jul 2005 21:07 - 4085 of 10502

I was too busy on other things, What were the prices?

Dil - 27 Jul 2005 21:17 - 4086 of 10502

Just checked and I didn't lay them but backed the other team at an average of 2.14 and layed at an average of 1.10.

Also won on Malmo , Schalke and now green on Newcastle.

Dil - 27 Jul 2005 21:18 - 4087 of 10502

OOps , Schalke just conceded one in 90th minute but still 2-1 up.

Fundamentalist - 30 Jul 2005 11:16 - 4088 of 10502
