Queen and Country (BABE)

Sponsor Your Queen and Country

BABE Rally 2007 - From BA (Big Apple) to BE (Big Easy), a total drive of 1500 miles in four days on the east coast of the USA, in a banger yank tank that has to cost less than $250.

In a moment of madness, Martini and Gausie have entered a team - "Queen and Country", the entry has been accepted, and so long as we can get all of the prelims in place, at the end of May we'll be setting off from New York with "New Orleans or bust" ringing loudly in our ears.

In case you're wondering, we'll start with Martini as Queen (Gausie will be Cunt-ry) and we'll swap over every now and again.

We'll be raising money for Save The Children, and hopefully, in due course, some of you guys will dig deep.

We're planning on getting a car in late April and flying out a week early to prepare it for the journey - which is at the end of May.

We'll be looking for a car with acres and acres of metal and rust, a decent set of brakes, an engine and gearbox that stands a chance of getting us 1500 miles, and a very loud stereo. We've decided that an open top is mandatory - even if we have to take a cutter to a saloon. A custom paintjob is planned, given sufficient time.

You're way too well read!

AJB has been in touch and asks after you. He also suggested you might want to sponsor me to visit McDonalds whilst I'm out there....

You need some music to play on your 8-track.

On the Road Again - Canned Heat

Well, I'm so tired of crying, but i'm out
on the road again.
- I'm on the road again.
Well, I'm so tired of crying, but I'm out
on the road again.
- I'm on the road again.
I ain't got no woman
Just to call my special friend.
You know the first time I traveled out
in the rain and snow,
- In the rain and snow.
You know the first time I traveled out
in the rain and snow,
- In the rain and snow.
I didn't have no payroll,
Not even no place to go.
And my dear mother left me when
I was quite young,
- When I was quite young.
And my dear mother left me when
I was quite young,
- When I was quite young.
She said "Lord, have mercy
On my wicked son."
Take a hint from me, mama, please
don't you cry no more,
- Don't you cry no more.
Take a hint from me, mama, please
don't you cry no more,
- Don't you cry no more.
'Cause it's soon one morning
Down the road I'm going.
But I aint going down that
long old lonesome road
All by myself.
But I aint going down that
long old lonesome road
All by myself.
I can't carry you, Baby,
Gonna carry somebody else.

OR the Willie Nelson version

On the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way
And our way
Is on the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again

On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way
And our way
Is on the road again

Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
And I can't wait to get on the road again

Haystack - lol

We'll also have a portable mp3 player as backup.

Lyrics:-

When I wake up, yeah I know Im gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out yeah I know Im gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
And If I get drunk, yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver whatever that means
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
To be the man who walked 1,000 miles
To fall down at your door

When I'm working yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's working hard for you
And when the money, comes in for the work I do
I'll pass almost every penny on to you
When I come home yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you
And if I grow old well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you

And I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
To be the man who walked 1,000 miles
To fall down at your door

Surrender
Surrender

When I'm lonely yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's lonely without you
When I'm dreaming yes I know I'm gonna dream
I gonna Dream about the time when I'm with you
And if I get drunk, yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man that gets drunk next to you
And if I haver, whatever the fuck that means
I'm gonna be the man who havers next you

And I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
To be the man who walked 1,000 miles
To fall down at your door

Surrender
Surrender

When I'm lonely, yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man whos lonely without you
I'm gonna be the man whos coming home

Cuz I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
To be the man who walked 1,000 miles
To fall down at your door

Surrender
Surrender
Surrender

Greystone
Al many thanks.

Like all this music must get a cd cut and a ghetto blaster for the trip

Greystone - 07 Apr 2007 08:47 - 56 of 269

Good luck to you both Martini & Gausie. It sounds like a great adventure and is for a very good cause. Only wish I could be there... ;)

Biker - 07 Apr 2007 23:14 - 57 of 269

"Only wish I could be there"

Yeah, so do I Greystone. :(

I've ridden some of the roads through the mountains that their routes takes and can't wait to get back there. Deal's Gap, with 318 curves in eleven point something miles, on a GoldWing, was brilliant.

A word of advice guys - with the ridiculous speeds most folk travel at, and with a curve on average every fifty yards they can come at you from both directions very quickly and unexpectedly. Much better to stay on your own side of the road and not to try and cut the corners.

Post photos when you get back.

Martini - 10 Apr 2007 03:48 - 58 of 269

Many thanks to :-

Bullie Cant resist an offer like that!
The Count Watch it :)
Splat - Yes seemed the right thing to do.

All so so generous well over half way now.

Dil - 10 Apr 2007 09:46 - 59 of 269

"I Would Roll 500 Miles" by Peter Kay seems appropriate.

Gausie - 10 Apr 2007 10:03 - 60 of 269

Dil - you'll be pleased to hear we have Men of Harlech and cwm rhondda already loaded up. We need something to play for when the car breaks down.

Still, I find myself loading up the iPod with all of these suggestions, plus a few military marches and an awful lot of Gilbert & Sullivan.

We havent even started looking for a car yet.

I cant help feeling that we may be putting the D'oyly Carte before the horse.
