I don't get it, prodman says you pay stamp duty when you close the short or buy back.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 25 Oct 2005 17:12 - 412 of 550

Jimmy,

If you buy, you will be charged stamp duty

If you short, there is no stamp duty, you will however be charged it when you perform the closing transaction (the buy back) as this will be a buy. This is the same as the real thing.

Taxman has to make his money somewhere :)

jimmy b - 25 Oct 2005 17:16 - 413 of 550

I have shorted stock with Barclays ,and never paid any stamp duty.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 25 Oct 2005 17:28 - 414 of 550

Jimmy,

I think we are getting our wires crossed here. No short ever incurrs stamp duty, the buy back is a 'buy' to the taxman and will incurr stamp duty, when you are trading real shares and consequently in the game as well

jimmy b - 25 Oct 2005 17:37 - 415 of 550

One last thing Ian ,,when you close a short and buy back ,you are closing the trade i take it ,if you then wanted to go long ,would you make another trade ?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 25 Oct 2005 17:39 - 416 of 550

jimmy,

this is a switch trade - If you buy back the same volume as you have shorted, you are basically closing the position - it becomes a switch trade if you enter a higher volume, thus closing the short and opening a long position, I'm gonna go and have me dinner now :) catch you all tomorrow,

Ian

IanT(MoneyAM) - seem to have lost the details of my Champion Investor name and password. My fault as I should not use so many different ones.
Can you trace anything under druid2 or welshdruid for me please. I know that other memerbs of the family have used welshdruid2,3 & 4. tks.

IanT(MoneyAM)
ECT (FTSE Small Cap) & ECPC (AIM) are listed in Euros not pence. Champ Invest is incorrectly using the Euro value as pence and blocking my initial trade.
For ECT mid 18.05 NMS 3000 = Max trade 36,686.64
Champ Invest shows ECT offer 18.5p NMS 3000 = Max trade 555.00

skg,

As far as I am aware, the system can only quote in sterling - I will however get Karl to take a look,

Ian

Kayak - 26 Oct 2005 12:20 - 421 of 550

Use of the "Trade again with a new quote?" link appears to cause nesting in the LH frame.

StarFrog - 26 Oct 2005 13:42 - 422 of 550

I can't do any form of trade (buy or sell). Keep getting message:

Sorry your request cannot be processed as trading is not allowed during market auctions.See rules.

I thought market auctions were at the begining and end of the day. Or is there an early close today that I am unaware of?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Oct 2005 13:43 - 423 of 550

Starfrog,

You are correct they are at the start and end of the day normally - I will get the tech guys to take a look,

Ian

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Oct 2005 13:44 - 424 of 550

Starfrog,

I have just tried it and got up a quote for it can you tell me some of the Epics you are using and I will see if I can replicate with them,

Ian

StarFrog - 26 Oct 2005 13:44 - 425 of 550

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Oct 2005 13:49 - 426 of 550

Starfrog,

I have managed to replicate that on this specific stock I will get Karl to take a look and post here,

Ian

StarFrog - 26 Oct 2005 13:50 - 427 of 550
