Made me laugh this lunch time on the news with new UKIP voters saying it as nothing to do with Immigration.

Pull the other one I say, its all to do about immigration. What they really mean is it is all about immigration but darent say so. Its become a no go area talking about immigrants a taboo but we shouldnt have let it get that way.

Its these wooly wet liberals that have preached 'political correctness' in the press in our schools in our workplaces and in parliament.

Its time we changed this, give immigrants a fair hand but at the same time clamp down on the spoilers who are just coming here for the British benefis (i dont mean welfare but that can be included) and last but not least make sure they integrate into our way of life wether they like it or not and ask them to leave if they do not make the transition.

I for one am fed up of trying to go through no go Asian areas in places within west Yorkshire indeed Yorkshire as a whole and find the communitys non British and more like satelites of rural Pakistan and IM THE OUTSIDER and threatned because of it.

No doubt now someone will come along now and attack me here and say Im a racist....sigh.

It will be interesting to watch all the back-stabbing in the aftermath of these results.

i'll be fully with goldfinger on the subject. But then again there is lack of sensible respect on our planet overall.

The success of UKIP will, I believe, will turn out to be good for the Conservatives. As the GE approaches people will see that UKIP cannot give them any chance of a referendum on the EU. At that point they may well switch back to the Conservatives including those Labour voters who voted for UKIP. The anti immigration feeling is strongly linked to a referendum because without leaving the EU we cannot stop immigration.

If we get a Labour government, immigration will just increase. The Libs won't win the election and UKIP certainly won't. So if you want to curb immigration then vote Conservative. The Conservatives have been unable to reduce immigration much because they are in a coalition and the Libs block many Conservative policies.

The older parties don't know how to respond to Ukip.

If there is one fundamental truth of today’s election results, it’s this: none of the older political parties know what to do about Ukip. That’s because they don’t really know why Ukip is advancing.

A lot of politicians, both Conservative and Labour, think this is about policy. They argue that people are voting Ukip because they are unhappy with the policies adopted and implemented by the bigger parties.

That was the official Tory case put by Michael Gove today, when he argued that Ukip supporters are angry about Europe and immigration will have their demands satisfied by the Conservatives:


"For those people who voted Ukip today, the best assurance that they have of their priorities being secured is through a Conservative government at the next election defeating Labour; David Cameron giving people the referendum, the in/out referendum on our membership of the European Union that many people want; and at the same time Theresa May cracking down on immigration."

does anyone have any idea as to % turnout at these elections?

we know ukip has done well, even if only by spoiling the party, so to speak
on the other hand, labour really haven't performed, which says a lot about EM's total lack of public appeal

what i really don't know is how badly have the tories actually done
sure they lost seats, but that is always the case with the incumbent, but is the loss of <200 seats really such a bad result?
my gut feel is that it is not

sensible and relatively apolitical responses would be nice :-)

BBC latest estimate is 36% turnout.

Cynic how do you mean Labour havent really peformed the bookies were using a spread as low as 150 seats.

They have done far better than that.

In the end they came with a late run and the transfer of seats from Tory to labour in London was a real boost.

The real losers now its over are the Tories.

Labour have done badly. They should have got at least 400 to have a chance of success.

In fact this was the best result of the day........

Labour is jubilant over the capture of Hammersmith and Fulham, which it described as “David Cameron’s favourite council”, from the Conservatives.

If they can beat the torys on this ground Milly should be telling the troops they can win them everywhere.
