CROSBY CAPITAL, Certainly Worth A Look. (CSB)

goldfinger - 23 Mar 2005 09:35

Bought these the other day on results day and was certainly taken aback by their fantastic growth over the period focussing in on Asia. Ive copied a report from Killik Brokers who sum up the potential far better than I ever could.

Take note of the last Paragraph.

CROSBY CAPITAL Final Results

We highlighted Crosby Capital last year as an interesting opportunity. Its rather complex business structure makes it difficult to analyse and its introduction to the AIM market through a reverse takeover of a cash shell meant that investors have gradually got to know the story over the past twelve months. Nevertheless, it is fair to say that from a placing price of 15p, the rise to 29p suggests the action is underway.

The group is headed by two well known investment bankers including Simon Fry who was former head of Nomura in structured finance alongside Guy Hands. The company was established to house their interests in handling transactions in the Asian region and late last year, the first fruits were delivered with the injection of its oil and gas agreement with Medco which provided them with a carried interest over disposal proceeds above a $120 million benchmark (the expectation is for a sum significantly higher which will provide Lodore Resources with a useful cash injection). Crosby, having placed down 70 million Lodore shares for 10 million gross (5 million net to Crosby), retains 214 million shares worth around 32 million or around 15p per share.

Partially reflecting this disposal, Crosby has reflected part of the profit as it announces for the year to December 31, 2004, it generated a profit of $34 million on $55 million of revenue. The company states that the actual profit to be recognized on the Lodore transaction will be $82 million or 42 million. The total value of Crosby at 29p (new high up 3p) is 60 million. Simon Fry alludes to a healthy pipeline of new merchant banking opportunities coming through and hopes to conclude some this year.

For investors, it appears one is paying a modest premium over current assets for potential significant further upside. ENDS.

Speculative punt, that could be a winner.

Now then, Now then.
Whats going on here suddenly?

moneyplus - 09 Jan 2006 16:37 - 416 of 508

onwards and upwards!! maybe good news coming.

hewittalan6 - 09 Jan 2006 16:39 - 417 of 508

It was a bit odd, MP.
Dull day with no news, little trading and a gently drifting SP turns dramatically in about 10 mins!!
It will all come out in the wash, I suppose.

This mornings RNS explains the recent rise nicely. Still holding, still happy and still confident of more gains.

Superb news. Get those warrants exercised I say..............

Crosby Capital Partners Inc. ('Crosby' and together with its subsidiaries the
'Crosby Group')

IB Daiwa Corporation ('IB Daiwa') Announces Gas Discovery at Kami

IB Daiwa (Stock Code: JP 3587) has today announced the success of the Kami well.
An English translation of the full text of the announcement made by IB Daiwa is
available on IB Daiwa's website (
www.ibdaiwa.co.jp
).

The Crosby Group currently holds 56,325,000 shares in IB Daiwa, which represents
16% of its current issued share capital. The Crosby Group also holds warrants to
subscribe for a further 64,600,000 shares that once exercised would provide the
Crosby Group with a 28% interest in IB Daiwa on a fully diluted basis.

Important Gas Discovery at Kami

Lodore Resources Inc. ('Lodore'), a wholly owned subsidiary of IB Daiwa, has a
75% working interest in a number of high quality prospects in Louisiana and
Texas, in the United Sates. The Kami well was the first of these prospects to be
drilled and, following the drilling reaching the well's target depth, the
quantum of reserves have been evaluated and it has been established that the
reservoir of gas tapped by the well is commercially exploitable.

Although a formal reserves audit has not yet been performed pending the
commencement of production, on the basis of the above evaluation and current gas
prices, Lodore have calculated that the Kami well is expected to generate total
revenues over its life of over US$75 million, commencing from Q2 2006. IB
Daiwa's share of future costs is estimated to be only US$2 million.

IB Daiwa have estimated that, at current gas prices, its existing production
from Louisiana is estimated to generate annual revenues of approximately US$40
million.

Simon Fry, Chief Executive Officer, commented 'The discovery at Kami is a
significant milestone for IB Daiwa which is now a fully fledged natural
resources company. IB Daiwa not only has significant producing assets via its
recent acquisition of Darcy Petroleum but has now managed to transform the first
of its exploration assets into a producing asset to further enhance the
portfolio. These producing assets are expected to make IB Daiwa profitable for
the first time in its recent history and will generate cash flow that will be
available for the ongoing development of its significant portfolio of
exploitation and exploration assets. As the huge potential of IB Daiwa's high
quality exploration portfolio and the recurring earnings from Kami and Darcy
become more apparent, the Crosby Group, together with the other IB Daiwa
shareholders, should expect to benefit from a significant re-rating of IB Daiwa
in the Japanese stock market. The combination of IB Daiwa's producing assets and
exploration portfolio I believe is unique for a Japanese company and with its
return to profitability it is on course to become a significant player in the
Japanese capital markets.'

Mr Fry added 'our experience of working with IB Daiwa has been very positive,
and I cannot emphasise enough to our shareholders the potential that exists for
a very significant increase in the value of our stake. Whilst there can be no
doubt that even at the current price levels, our current holding in IB Daiwa is
very important for the Crosby Group, we are strongly of the opinion that this is
very much just a base level. Clearly we are thrilled at the success of Kami but
we are now very focussed on the prospect of developing Big Mouth Bayou where we
expect to commence drilling later this month. This property in Louisiana has had
extensive 3D seismic data analysis completed and lies in a highly productive
area for hydrocarbon extraction. Pre drill estimates of gross unrisked reserves
of 700 bcfe being 50 times of the reserve estimate of Kami speaks for itself in
terms of potential value. Dr Bob Williams and his team are also looking to
exploit at least 2 further PUD prospects with significant reservoir estimates
during the course of the year.'

proptrade - 11 Jan 2006 09:43 - 423 of 508

and the kicker is that the warrants are already paid for by a placing from a few months ago. this is why i love these guys....

107 million warrants granted at 30 yen = 15 million cost to exercise
20 million warrants placed at 225 = 20 million income
net holding for Crosby 87 million warrants at 212 yen FULL PAID UP - ie FREE = 90 million profit.

please do the maths yourself and all is availavle on RNS. The numbers are rough but close enough. these guys seriously know what they are doing!

goldfinger - 11 Jan 2006 10:03 - 424 of 508

Yup PT it really is cracking value at this SP.

Once over 100p 'and we stay there' it could really motor on up.

cheers GF.

PS, if you are interested in Merchant Banks which I think you are, have a gander at
Interregnum ITR a tech merchant bank. Its only a small cap of 6 million but looks to me to be way way too cheap. The RNS which the city missed over Xmas says it all. I think theres at least 20 million to be realised on this one. I havent done a reco because its too small and obviously risky. I bought some at just over 6p.

hewittalan6 - 11 Jan 2006 10:07 - 425 of 508

GF,
Glad to see you interested in ITR. I have had a stake since about summer and it is my most boring investment ever!! But I cling on and hope.
Thought I was the only one in it.
Alan

goldfinger - 11 Jan 2006 10:10 - 426 of 508

Alan did you see the RNS over xmas showing break into operating profit?. Looks like the top four holdings are worth 20 million. I suppose small size means its off the radar of a lot of investors.

cheers GF.

hewittalan6 - 11 Jan 2006 10:16 - 427 of 508

I was away GF, but read it when I got back. I think, and hope, it will set toungues wagging a bit when it reports its finals, but it seems to be one of those companies who could announce it had discovered the elixir of eternal life and still be ignored.
I can be patient.
