How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

There appears to be a problem with the middle of the Betfair screen but the site appears to be working well.

Two minute outage there. Having a good day as well. Suddenly thought it was about to go to pot.

Scripophilist - 12 Aug 2005 16:41 - 4146 of 10502

16:30 Folkstone

Figaros Quest, 10k lay dumped in the market in play at short odds just before it goes on to lose. Either somebody was a race reader of untold ability or they were very confident it was not going to win.

Harlosh - 12 Aug 2005 18:32 - 4147 of 10502

Poor offerings from Betfair on the first day of the premiership. Hardly anything to get excited about.

Fundamentalist - 12 Aug 2005 18:47 - 4148 of 10502

John

who needs the premiership when there are massive profits to be made on the Ashes!!! have laid the Aussies 4 times in the match and made good profits on all of them - the best from 3.6 to 9.8 :-)))

Harlosh - 12 Aug 2005 19:08 - 4149 of 10502

Well done Steve. Not been around much lately so haven't had time to study the cricket.
Glad to see your doing well though.

How's the building work going?

Fundamentalist - 12 Aug 2005 19:59 - 4150 of 10502

John

likewise not had much time trading but have managed to watch most of the first two days of the cricket - not looking so good for the next two days though :-(

Builders are finished tomorrow then its a case of getting the bathrooms in, paint on the walls (kitchen, diner and 2 beds are done already), fireplace fitted, doors hung and the flooring in the next 2 weeks so that we can move in on the 26th (fortnight to day!!!) - so not going to be around much for the next 3 weeks at least.

Harlosh - 12 Aug 2005 20:26 - 4151 of 10502

I'd love to help you move in that day but we fly to Menorca early that morning.
Glad you can now see light at the end of the tunnel anyway.

We'll have to celebrate with a day at the races.

Fundamentalist - 12 Aug 2005 22:09 - 4152 of 10502

John

your timing is impeccable lol - day at the races sounds like a cracking idea
