THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Interesting how the rise in popularity of UKIP coincides with the rise in people admitting that they are racist

that so-called racist poll was one of the most stupid things have ever seen in my life .... it was almost akin to a poll showing that the majority of people think tony blair should be canonised

Haystack - 28 May 2014 17:27 - 41575 of 81564

I certainly know people who openly admit to being racist, especially those that live in areas with serious immigration problems. If you asked me if I was racist, I would say no, but plenty of people would agree.

CHESS TELECOM
i very much hope that none of our "friends" here subscribe through this company.

as a very small example of their sharp practice ......
when your contract expires, should you not agree to renew, they charge you an admin fee of £99.00 (+ VAT no doubt) for closing the account
for doing what exactly???? ..... the account should be de facto closed because it no longer exists

apparently it is all in their so-called T&Cs, no doubt buried somewhere in the minutiae.
almost needless to say, rather like Ryanair, it is effectively impossible to get beyond the first poor sucker who answers the calls

The survey was the British Social Attitudes Survey. It is a highly respected survey conducted by the National Centre for Social Research. They have been surveying social attitudes for 40 years.

would you admit to being a racist even if you were?
bet you wouldn't!
would you want a family of 10 romanians, bulgarians, croatians or even ***** living next door to you?
bet you wouldn't, but does that make you a racist?
no

Haystack - 28 May 2014 17:42 - 41579 of 81564

I wouldn't admit to being racist, but I know people who do admit it.

Shortie - 28 May 2014 17:49 - 41580 of 81564

Define racist?

MaxK - 28 May 2014 17:51 - 41581 of 81564

Anyone who disagree's with your point of view.

Shortie - 28 May 2014 17:53 - 41582 of 81564

Here's the definition.

Prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior:

I can see why people get annoyed with immigration. There is a huge pressure on services. In some boroughs there are not enough places for children to attend school, waiting lists at GPs have grown due to immigrants bringing health problems. I was in a hospital yesterday and in another today. Yesterday I was in a day treatment facility at the Whittington in Highgate. It was very busy and I was the only ethnically British person there. Today, I was at the Royal Free in Hampstead, which was even busier, with a bigger department. Today, I was probably one of four ethnically British out of at least 60 people. The NHS service was excellent in both cases, but the departments were under considerable pressure with seating running out most of the time.

There may well be economic benefits to immigration, but it doesn't mitigate the harm it does to our services of health, education, housing, law enforcement and general overcrowding.

I thought we called that being democratic, our superior democracy has been the reason for ousting more than one leader in the past, we don't deem ourselves as racists though do we..... but if the shoe fits....

Here's another one for your consideration http://www.roadjunky.com/guide/moving-abroad-the-emigration-guide/where-to-emigrate/

Haystack - 28 May 2014 18:00 - 41586 of 81564

If you want a definition of racism then I can only give examples. I often hear comments about 'blacks' as a general term. I have heard similar things said and the target would be 'Jews', 'pakis', 'muslims' etc. I would regard it as making general derogatory comments about a racial or ethnic group.

goldfinger - 28 May 2014 18:13 - 41587 of 81564

Your sitting on the fence Hays.

What about the racism COMING THE OTHER WAY......?

EG, you go into a shop and the two black people speaking go from English to their Native toung looking at you and taking the -iss.

The most ignorant and racist ACTS going.

Haystack - 28 May 2014 18:23 - 41588 of 81564

I agree. That is racism as well. It is not COMING NG THE OTHER WAY. It is just racism.

hilary - 28 May 2014 18:24 - 41589 of 81564

If they're talking in their own tongue, how would you know whether they were taking the piss or not? And, seeing as you're clearly incapable of speaking English, Fishfinger, it's highly unlikely that you'd be able to speak their language to be sure.

Are you good at baiting your hooks when you go fishing?

ExecLine - 28 May 2014 18:28 - 41591 of 81564

Following picture began circulating in November. People are saying it should be "The Picture of the Year," or perhaps, "Picture of the Decade." It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the U.S. paper which published it, you probably would never have seen it.

You might well shed an emotional tear when you read the story associated with it.

The picture is that of a 21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by surgeon named Joseph Bruner. The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb.

Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrics nurse in Atlanta. She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure. Practicing at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb.

During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and makes a small incision to operate on the baby.

As Dr. Bruner completed the surgery on Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger. Dr. Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was the most emotional moment of his life, and that for an instant during the procedure he was just frozen, totally immobile.

The photograph captures this amazing event with perfect clarity. The editors titled the picture, "Hand of Hope.

Little Samuel's mother said they "wept for days" when they saw the picture. She said, "The photo reminds us pregnancy isn't about disability or an illness, it's about a little person"
