Israeli Gaza conflict?????? (GAZA)

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2009 19:21

Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?

If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?

Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?

What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

Haystack - 01 Feb 2011 18:46 - 4193 of 6906

I am not discussing the people of Israel, but their government and its actions. If the people want a two state solution then change the government. They won't get it with the current one.

Haystack - 01 Feb 2011 18:49 - 4194 of 6906

There is an interesting program on BBC 2 on Thursday at 9pm for an hour - "The Ultra Zionists". It is about settlers in the West Bank.

cynic - 01 Feb 2011 18:50 - 4195 of 6906

what an inane and typical facile comment .... it's akin to saying we don't like the EU so let's change the gov't

cynic - 01 Feb 2011 18:51 - 4196 of 6906

your tv programme is much more likely to be about what it actually says on the tin, which is nothing like what you are wanting to wish .... in fact i note it is one of Louis Theroux's "escapades" (sorry; not intended to be derogatory, but can't think of the right word) .... he is a very clever and interesting interviewer, as you would have noticed if you have seen any of his other programmes ..... if you did, did you feel that his portrayal of white extremists in mid-west USA was put across as being typical of the general population and its consensus? .... no, it portrayed as it said on the tin!

Haystack - 01 Feb 2011 20:47 - 4197 of 6906

Unless Israel changes their government they won't get a two state solution. The current government doesn't seem to want a two state solution. If they did then they would not let settlers build settlements illegally in the area that is supposed to be for the Palestinians. They would not guard the settlers with occupation forces while they attack Palestinian farmers and steal their land.

The changes in government in Egypt and possibly some other countries may be a reality check for Israel. Israel has been hurredly contacting their embassies around the world over the last few days tryting to gather support for the dictator in Egypt. At least Israel is beginning to realsie what trouble they may be in for.

cynic - 01 Feb 2011 20:58 - 4198 of 6906

dope - and that's as polite as it gets ..... just as a basic - when was the last time that israel had a single party majority? .... can't be bothered with more .... just go and have a think and a read before you post such juvenile rubbish

Haystack - 01 Feb 2011 21:54 - 4199 of 6906

They constantly have a coalition because of the far right religious parties. While that continues Israel will get nowhere. It is up to the people to vote for a different grouping if they want things to get better.

It is a bizzare situation going by your own figures.

"that about 75-80% of Israelis want a two state solution, about 10-15% just don't know as their fear stops them, and about 10% are dead against a settlement"

That clearly isn't reflected in Israeli election results. If it was you would easily have a majority for a two state solution. The reality is that they have a government that pretends to be heading towards a two state solution while taking more and more land and supressing the population of east Jerusalem and the West Bank. The people to vote in a more considered way.

There is a piece of video on the internet of Netenyahu filmed without his knowledge. It shows him in a house talking to supporters. He is telling them that he is pretending to be pursuing the peace process, but will just take more land.

Hays,

Once again I agree with your summation, but Cynic is being his usual obtuse self.

Interesting to try to guess at the next five years in the M.E., but I think this may awaken Israelis to America and their own limitations.

This is a similar video clip

Netanyahu: America is Easy to Push Around (English Subtitles)

I've just worked out that, if this thread had started in 1947 with the founding of the State of Israel, it would now have 70,400 postings - and be no nearer agreement or resolution.

yuff - 02 Feb 2011 09:27 - 4203 of 6906

Have you noticed it is the Arab Govts that quake with fear. Netanyahu is safe as Israel is the only democracy in the Mid East. Its taken uprisings to prove this very basic point.

cynic - 02 Feb 2011 09:41 - 4204 of 6906

very true, but it's a shame that, due to the inordinate number of parties who hold a spoiling vote between them all, it is difficult for israel to have a strong gov't that is able and has the will to take and force through difficult and unpopular (with the noisy lunatic fringe) decisions ...... unquestionably, USA holds the key, but it has been lily-livered for many years as all presidents are fearful of alienating the jewish lobby ..... and before this thread's idiots latch onto that, it similarly applies to the gun and trucking cabals, and formerly with the irish contingent

Fred1new - 02 Feb 2011 09:56 - 4205 of 6906

Cynic,

I thought if you tried really hard, you could write sense.

Having written that, I don't feel well. I will have to have another lie down.

8-)

The problem is when individuals get into "government" and fail the "people" who put them in power.

Sometimes because the "ideals" are too "high", "patience" runs out, or greed takes over.

MightyMicro - 02 Feb 2011 20:41 - 4207 of 6906

Fred, you are just so patronising. But what do I care.

Isaacs - 02 Feb 2011 21:23 - 4208 of 6906

Some things never change MM.

Fred1new - 03 Feb 2011 09:09 - 4209 of 6906

N,

Are you quibbling again?

8-~)

But I don't believe in an absolute values, on perfect "ideals", or absolute morality.

Was confused 40 years ago when first discussed such, and remain so.

Will come back, but my router and net work have been giving me trouble.

Not sure why at the moment.

Have a good day.

Fred1new - 03 Feb 2011 09:13 - 4210 of 6906

All I know is that I hope Egypt does not end in a civil war and hope for a moderate "government" replaces its present ruling "body".

My wife's family suffered for generations from the family splits, which occurred after a civil war.

cynic - 03 Feb 2011 09:54 - 4211 of 6906

didn't know you could trace your family back to 17th century ..... i think civil war in egypt is unlikely, unless fomented by the external backers of fundamentalism ..... however, "moderate" is also questionable ..... my bet is that the army will effectively "elect" someone to act at their behest

Fred1new - 03 Feb 2011 10:44 - 4212 of 6906

My wife can. I haven't bothered to, as I know who I am. 8-)

Unfortunately, without the obvious political leaders and "representative" groups, there will be a political vacuum and it seems probable that the many be a "temporary" military government.

Do you mean by "external backers of fundamentalism" the American Zionist lobbies who back Zionist Fundamentalism in Israel.
