How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

WOODIE - 21 Aug 2005 11:40 - 4195 of 10502

how to trade the chelsea v arsenal match my idea is to wait for the first goal then lay they that side any better ideas ?

Dil - 22 Aug 2005 13:33 - 4196 of 10502

If that donkey Drogba had scored in the last minute he would have cost me a fortune :-)

bakko - 22 Aug 2005 14:05 - 4197 of 10502

Scrip, I see that your beloved Southampton are playing away tonight at Southend in the Mickey Mouse Cup 1st round! A competition which they need to take seriously this season, LOL!

Even though they're away I'm very tempted to take a bite at 2.14 (drifted out from 1.93 since last night).

Dil - 22 Aug 2005 14:12 - 4198 of 10502

There's more non English players playing for Southampton than Woodward picked for the Lions tour !

"bakko - 22 Aug 2005 14:05 - 4197 of 4198"

Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. Can you tell how excited I am? Still, it's easy to get a ticket nowadays at a home match for sure.

Pleased that we thrashed Norwich 1-0 on Saturday we can still continue to dream about getting promoted. Sqaud just doesn't look strong enough though.

Harlosh - 22 Aug 2005 16:00 - 4200 of 10502

"thrashed Norwich 1-0"

Lol

bakko - 22 Aug 2005 16:18 - 4201 of 10502

Backed the Saint's at 2.14 as I can't see them losing this game.

Then again, I have a perverse affinity for them as I still very much remember the 76 FA Cup Final!

Scripophilist - 22 Aug 2005 16:33 - 4202 of 10502

Green up as quick as you can for sure!

sealed - 22 Aug 2005 17:23 - 4203 of 10502

Dil
At least Drogba had the decency to score in the 73rd min. Unlike a certain Argentine player I could mention. The sooner Jose knocks these johnnie foreigner ideas out of his players that its acceptable to score in the 90th minute in the premier league, the better. Its just not cricket, is it?
Needless to say Mr. Crespo will not be on my xmas card list. ;~)

Dil - 22 Aug 2005 19:14 - 4204 of 10502

lol , if Drogba had done for me in the last minute I would have deserved it for not greening up .... and for sending my best mate who's a Chelsea fan "donkey" texts all afternoon :-)

Dil - 22 Aug 2005 20:11 - 4205 of 10502

What's happened in the Dortmund game ... pitch invasion ?

Dil - 22 Aug 2005 20:18 - 4206 of 10502

What happens if a match gets abandoned after 42 minutes ?

The Dortmund game has been "suspended" after 42 minutes but I don't know why.

Dil - 22 Aug 2005 20:19 - 4207 of 10502

OK now up and running again , maybe the ref lost his whistle.

bakko - 22 Aug 2005 20:51 - 4208 of 10502

Saints 2 goals in 2 mins. Didn't even have time to green up at 1-0.

Well done Saints - I knew I could rely on you for a win tonight!

Scripophilist - 22 Aug 2005 20:51 - 4209 of 10502

Bakko, You should have a made a packet there, Two goals in two minutes!

Scripophilist - 22 Aug 2005 20:52 - 4210 of 10502

I doubt they even got the market back from suspension.

bakko - 22 Aug 2005 20:58 - 4211 of 10502

Scrip, Not even close to a packet! Only a modest initial back. Wished I'd gone in big style but happy with any win.
Will be scalping in the 2nd half.

Scripophilist - 22 Aug 2005 21:54 - 4212 of 10502

Nipped in for some money as well in the second half. I am testing a new function for Bet Angel, a bookmaking function. You can zip around an event and click on the odds and your margin and it will make a book for you. In footy it's ideal as you, 'know', which odds are going to change over time so you can zip in and pick off a few % quite easily. Once we know it is working OK we will put it on general release. Still stress testing it at the moment.

sealed - 22 Aug 2005 22:03 - 4213 of 10502

So "I had a dream" only works if they are in the premier league. ;~)
