How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

What's happened in the Dortmund game ... pitch invasion ?

Dil - 22 Aug 2005 20:18 - 4206 of 10502

What happens if a match gets abandoned after 42 minutes ?

The Dortmund game has been "suspended" after 42 minutes but I don't know why.

Dil - 22 Aug 2005 20:19 - 4207 of 10502

OK now up and running again , maybe the ref lost his whistle.

bakko - 22 Aug 2005 20:51 - 4208 of 10502

Saints 2 goals in 2 mins. Didn't even have time to green up at 1-0.

Well done Saints - I knew I could rely on you for a win tonight!

Scripophilist - 22 Aug 2005 20:51 - 4209 of 10502

Bakko, You should have a made a packet there, Two goals in two minutes!

Scripophilist - 22 Aug 2005 20:52 - 4210 of 10502

I doubt they even got the market back from suspension.

bakko - 22 Aug 2005 20:58 - 4211 of 10502

Scrip, Not even close to a packet! Only a modest initial back. Wished I'd gone in big style but happy with any win.
Will be scalping in the 2nd half.

Nipped in for some money as well in the second half. I am testing a new function for Bet Angel, a bookmaking function. You can zip around an event and click on the odds and your margin and it will make a book for you. In footy it's ideal as you, 'know', which odds are going to change over time so you can zip in and pick off a few % quite easily. Once we know it is working OK we will put it on general release. Still stress testing it at the moment.

So "I had a dream" only works if they are in the premier league. ;~)

Scripophilist - 22 Aug 2005 22:05 - 4214 of 10502

It's funny you say that, If Southampton draw Carlisle out in the following rounds or in the FA CUP be very afraid indeed.

sealed - 22 Aug 2005 22:13 - 4215 of 10502

LOL!
I've made a note to myself 'Lay S'ton, Carlisle are going to stuff them in either the carling or FA cup' ;~)

Scripophilist - 23 Aug 2005 19:38 - 4216 of 10502

Just been monitoring market activity and saw somebody lay Liverpool with 17k

ptholden - 23 Aug 2005 20:16 - 4217 of 10502

Strweth scrip, load of money to lose, but then again lot of money to win!
Anyone know why the Rosenborg is suspended?

ptholden - 23 Aug 2005 20:30 - 4218 of 10502

Great Rosenborg have scored and it's still suspended???

ptholden - 23 Aug 2005 20:54 - 4219 of 10502

Guess I had better read the rules next time, win only market! LoL

Scripophilist - 23 Aug 2005 23:08 - 4220 of 10502

Re : That Liverpool trade, It would appear watching the momey is a good tactic. The trade stuck out like a sore thumb.

ptholden, I didn't see the market so not sure what the rules were but some matches do not go inplay so would have been suspended at kick off.

ptholden - 24 Aug 2005 09:20 - 4221 of 10502

Scrip

The Rosenborg match didn't go inplay, hence the suspension. Feeling my way around this at the moment, but backed Rosenborg to win so no harm done, would have preferred to green up though, rather than watching Steau Bucharest mount a late comeback!!

pth,

If you're unsure, you can click on the Rules tab and that will tell you if the match is in play or not.

ptholden - 24 Aug 2005 16:36 - 4223 of 10502

Harlosh

Many thanks, found that out after I had placed the bet and wondering why it was suspended!

Is there an easy way to work out the mathematics of greening up?
