How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

I was considering laying Chelsea this evening but glad I didn't. Still a bit early in the season to pick any trends IMO.

Greed does pay (once in a blue moon) :~)

I am watching the Arsenal match they are all over Fulham and score should be much bigger. Struggling to type as this bottle runs dry. I always start with a glass but end up with an empty bottle somehow.

scrip you might not have seen my post from last night as you have not answered the question. i have looked on the links above but cant find any reference to the avarage % win per event ie if you layed out 1000 pound would the net winnings be 10% or more.

Scripophilist - 25 Aug 2005 13:11 - 4241 of 10502

That's an impossible question to answer as there are so many ways to trade a match, most of which I use. At the smallest level you can make as little as a few 10ths of a % but can turn them often and at the luckiest you could call a match on the nose and walk away with well over 100%. I tend to trade what I see rather than having some arbitary amount in terms of % or 's in my mind.

WOODIE - 25 Aug 2005 13:32 - 4242 of 10502

scrip thanks for honest reply, i thought it was a % game

Awesome BetAngel: Laid the draw 4th test at 3.35 before play this morning with a 30 tick offset and 5 point trailing stop before going out for back-to-school shopping.

Saw that Australia had followed-on in a tv shop window in Cheltenham, which gave the chore some light relief.

Arrived home to find my stop had been pulled up to 4.7 and closed manually at 4.9 for a huge number of ticks. Now green and enjoying the match :-)

Really pleased to see it being used to its potential. Also really pleased to see England nudging closer to the ashes. I have a couple of positions running this afternoon while I creosote the fence.

Scrip - What with the automation and now the force open/reverse giving order book dma type function for working the order book as demonstrated in your "causing pain" tutorial, this is truly a killer application.

Edward

Scrip, I would like to book for the course on 29th. The special offer is for bookings before 29th August which is bank holiday Monday. If I book this weekend, can I still get the special deal? Helen

Scripophilist - 27 Aug 2005 19:34 - 4250 of 10502

Hi Helen, You should be OK. It's something you will have to double check with global markets.

Scripophilist - 27 Aug 2005 19:36 - 4251 of 10502

Edward, You are really going to love the next two modules as well. We are busy testing them at the moment and will release them soon. They have been pretty complicated to write so we are being careful about putting them through their paces before we release them.
