Snip, I wouldn't worry, Its something that would have installed itself as a part of the Windows update process.

My D Link wireless router is playing up - connecting and disconnecting randomly. Several years old so I'm junking it. Replacements seem to vary in price a lot. Any advice on my choice of replacement?

vistauk, is the icon in the system tray? Right click and Refresh stocklist (the copy held by the alert software needs to be refreshed from the newswatch list). If that doesn't work, insert AVZ and ULT which have had announcements today.

Had the RAM delivered, installed it (2 x 500 and removed the 1 x 256), booted up no problem. Now it is saying I only have 384 RAM in my computer!? Do I need to touch the Bios?
Thanks.

Mr E,I dont think you will get the full 1 gig of memory shown,it is using the other for the graphics card which is the norm on Laptops.

Yes. You are missing 128. (1024 - 896) and (512 - 384).
It is very common for the motherboard to have graphics with no onboard memory and take it from main memory. It also applies to PCs that have cheaper mother boards with intregral graphics and no separate graphics card.

Thanks, is this a big problem? I guess not? Is there something Ishould do about it?

Mr E,this is the norm and you do not have to do anything else, just fire the laptop up and use it !!!

No Mr E, virtually all laptops use this method I believe. The point is that if 128 of 256 are used for graphics, if you increase memory to 896 then you have 7 times more usable memory than before (256-128=128; 896/128=7), not 4 times more. With limited memory, windows swaps stuff out on to the hard disk and uses that as memory but the transfer is therefore much slower

I don't know whether any of you remember the 'HTML Generator' on Croc's old site?
I used it frequently to prepare such things as my eBay Descriptions and it helped me greatly to prepare some very professional presentations. This fantastic tool and indeed, the whole of his very useful website, disappeared with Croc's unfortunate and tragic early death. Since then I have actively been looking for something to take its place. Well, earlier today I think I have now found it! Namely something that will allow me to Copy and Paste onto a web based page some professional looking text, click on a button, and then see the HTML, which would be required to Copy and Paste onto a web page, say on eBAY so as to create the required result.
I found a
FREE Web Office Suite. The HTML Generator feature I wanted so much is in the site's
Word Processing section.
As well as the HTML Generator in Word Processing, there is also a PDF File Generator, some Desktop Publishing, a Spreadsheet tool and also a Presentation facility.
The site is still in 'Beta' so not all facilities are fully available at present.

Adam - thanks - bought one only to find I needed a modem as well - then decided to eliminate corruption of the laptop wireless connection by uninstall/re boot. Hey presto everything works again - doh.

I've got a big problem with my multi-screen PC this morning.
I can move the mouse cursor freely around all of the screens, but when I try to drag something across the screen, it will only drag the object 10mm or so and then I have to release it and try dragging it again another 10mm and so on. It's stopping me from setting my Windows up as I want them.
It is also starting programs within the Start menu just by hovering over the item without left-clicking.
I've tried re-booting several times, but the problem persists.
I'm just about to change the mouse, but are there any other likely causes please?

Hilary, definitely sounds like a mouse problem. Very odd.
Bob, where is the battery (or don't you know?). It could be under the keyboard in which case a trawl of the web should help locate how to do it. Usually one or two screws holding the keyboard in place then has to be gently prised out.
