Adam - thanks - bought one only to find I needed a modem as well - then decided to eliminate corruption of the laptop wireless connection by uninstall/re boot. Hey presto everything works again - doh.

I've got a big problem with my multi-screen PC this morning.
I can move the mouse cursor freely around all of the screens, but when I try to drag something across the screen, it will only drag the object 10mm or so and then I have to release it and try dragging it again another 10mm and so on. It's stopping me from setting my Windows up as I want them.
It is also starting programs within the Start menu just by hovering over the item without left-clicking.
I've tried re-booting several times, but the problem persists.
I'm just about to change the mouse, but are there any other likely causes please?

Hilary, definitely sounds like a mouse problem. Very odd.
Bob, where is the battery (or don't you know?). It could be under the keyboard in which case a trawl of the web should help locate how to do it. Usually one or two screws holding the keyboard in place then has to be gently prised out.

Seymour,
I'm pretty sure now that it's something to do with Sun Java. Why the hell do programs insist on using it instead of MS Java????????
I've never had anything but problems with Sun Java and can't see any advantages whatsoever of it!!

Hi, Wondered if anyone could explain my memory problem(computer, not me)! When I boot up the first screen counts the memory upto 512. I have 1 x 256 stick and 2 x 128
sticks. however , when i run a program fresh devices to tell you all about your computer it says I have only have 384 memory and slot 2 does not have any memory. I can't check the memory out on my other computer as it is pc2100 and not pc133. does anyone know which figure is correct or have any ideas why the difference?
regards

I had a similar problem and switched mice over with other computer. Both work well now but the original mouse will still not work properly on the original computer. Must be a software problem.

It looks like it is using 128Mb for graphics memory. This is not uncommon when you have an integral graphics system on the mother board and not a separate graphics card. It just takes it when fully booted up.

Some computers will only accept identical memory upgrades. ie 2 x 256 , but not your config. Give Crucial, the memory people a buzz, and they may be able to give you more definitive answer.

Hi Haystack,
Thanks for getting back, I see what you saying but I do have a seperate grahics card Riva tnt which has 32mb (not much by todays standards i suppose) But I assume that the memory stick is ok as it's there on startup?

Was the graphics card added later. I added one to a PC and it still was taking the memory for its onboard systems as well.

No, I added a soundcard, graphics card etc when i changed the motherboard to a gigabyte one. It doesn't really matter as i still have 384mb, just curious why the difference and wondered if the memory was US or is still ok. I do thank you for your comments though much appreciated

Are you sure that the motherboard doesn't alsohave its own integral graphics. If it does and is taking memory then you can turn the memory grabbing off.

Back again! Sorry :-(
a) Installed office on to a new laptop, set up MS outlook with a few accounts. Now when I try and send emails it doesn't give me an option from which email to send it from? Any ideas?
b) I have a couple of hard drives, one without a computer (my fantasy of smashing a laptop against a wall was realsied) and one with (but without any usb ports (they have all broken). Any ideas how I can get the data from these onto my new laptop? Last time I just bought the same model as the hard drive so it would fit :-)
Cheers.

Mr Euro
When you hit create message, doesn't the Email skeleton come up with a list box in the 'from' part?
