2) how many are agency doctors and nurses?
3) what the costs of using the above?

One of the problems with some agency staff is the don't have ongoing responsibility or loyalty.

While they have a role to play and it is useful for some to be able to plan or do limited hours the do cause friction and lead to a demoralisation of the permanent staff.

I question the cost/efficiency and effects on standards.

In 1983, when he was Home Secretary, Leon Brittan was handed a dossier by Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens which included details of a VIP paedophile ring.

The file of course – we now know – then mysteriously went missing after Brittan said he “handed it to his officials” at the Home Office.

So who would those officials be?

Well, Brittan has already confirmed that the official who was with him at the meeting when he was handed the dossier was his PPS (Parliamentary Private Secretary).

And who was Brittan’s PPS at the time of the meeting?

Sir Brian Cubbon.

Sir Brian – although a former high ranking civil servant – has close links to MI5 and MI6.

In this document from 1999, Sir Brian is listed as a director of an MI6 front company called Hakluyt & Company.

And Sir Brian is also the official who was responsible for giving MI5 permission to tap the phones of leading CND activists in the 1980s.

And what is the relevance of the spooks involvement in the missing dossier?

Well, this is not the first time a VIP paedophile dossier has gone missing.

In the 1970s a special branch officer with Lancashire Police said a “thick” police dossier full of allegations from boys claiming they had been abused by Sir Cyril Smith went missing after an officer from MI5 told him it needed to be sent to MI5 headquarters in London.

It’s looking increasingly likely that VIP paedophiles – particularly those in Westminster – are being protected by MI5.

So don’t expect any arrests any time soon.

I think all Cameron's appointees should be vetted by an independent committee.

Asda Axes 1,360 Jobs Soon After David Cameron Welcomed Job Creation Plans

Asda is to cut 1,360 jobs as part of an overhaul of its store management structure, just a few months after David Cameron visited the supermarket giant to applaud its plans to create 12,000 new jobs.

The move comes two months after the chain, which has 578 UK stores, warned that 4,100 roles were at risk because of a need to reduce the number of back office jobs in favour of more customer-facing roles.

Asda chief executive Andy Clarke said: "Every supermarket must adapt to the intense changes in UK retailing or they will get left behind."

The new store structure will create 1,662 section managers and 4,000 section leaders but the redundancies will come from staff who do not meet the selection criteria or choose to leave.

Rival supermarket Morrisons made a similar announcement last month when it said it would axe 2,600 jobs in order to remove layers of management.

The big four supermarkets, including Tesco and Sainsbury's, are all being squeezed by discounters Aldi and Lidl and Waitrose at the upmarket end.

Asda said the new structure places a greater emphasis on e-commerce, puts more staff on the shop floor and removes back office administration tasks.

Clarke said the restructuring was one of the most difficult decisions he has had to make as chief executive.

He added: "Whilst I genuinely believe that it is the right decision for the future of Asda, knowing that it will result in valued colleagues leaving us is not easy."

Clarke said Asda first noticed "intense structural changes" in the market two year ago, since when the chain has examined its own set-up and tested scenarios before coming up with the proposals announced today.

Intense competition has dragged price inflation in the supermarket sector to its lowest level for almost eight years, according to Kantar Worldpanel.

The figure fell to 0.8% in the 12 weeks to June 22, according to its latest till-roll figures, which is the lowest level the research group has seen since it began collecting this data in October 2006.

Asda, which is part of US chain Wal-Mart, has shown signs that it is weathering the difficult conditions after Kantar said sales rose by 3.6% in the period, helping its market share lift to 17.1% from 16.9% a year earlier.

Elm Guest House : Crown Prosecution Service handling leads to MP’s complaint

A second MP, Simon Danczuk,,has complained to the Director of Public Prosecutions over the handling of Met’s Operation Fernbridge investigation into Elm Guest House.

This time the complaint is against the Crown Prosecution Service who have told a victim who says he was sexually abused there he is the only case where this has happened.

The official reply from the CPS is patently untrue since the Met Police themselves have admitted to Channel Four’s Dispatches that Sir Cyril Smith visited the house and was involved with rent boys there. And the person who says he was assaulted there was not involved with Cyril Smith.

The full story by my colleague Mark Conrad is on the Exaro website. It comes after Tom Watson complained to the DPP about the way the Met Police handled a rape claim from a woman against a former Tory minister which was also investigated by Fernbridge.

All this suggest that part of the Fernbridge investigation is not going well. And it strengthens the case for an overarching inquiry into historic child sex abuse investigations now demanded by 135 MPs
