How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Good footy on tonight but the odds on Man U for a win look very skinny to me.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 19:49 - 433 of 10502

Re : Tennis, Yes the odds will change when the draw is made. You will be making a bit of a gamble till then. Of course if he gets a good draw the odds will come in a bit.

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 19:55 - 434 of 10502

Odds on Arsenal and Chelsea skinny too Scrip.
Going to wait for a while, see if I can get better odds later on.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:05 - 435 of 10502

I think Chelsea should beat Borough, Arsenal & City could be interesting but Arsenal should do it. Man U against an inform Spurs @ 1.50, Just seems pretty risky.

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 20:08 - 436 of 10502

Well my strategy for the Chelsea match has gone, 2-0 already

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:08 - 437 of 10502

I love it when a plan comes together!!!

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:09 - 438 of 10502

Will trade 1.02 probably now. Too much risk to take onboard IMO so if you are not in don't join. Second goal came from a free kick setup.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:10 - 439 of 10502

Greened up on Chelsea now on Arsenal.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:14 - 440 of 10502

Tottenham attack missing Kanoute by the sound of it and playing a five man midfield. May take on ManU match as well.

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 20:21 - 441 of 10502

Glad I waited on the Arsenal match

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:22 - 442 of 10502

I bet you are, Commentary was signalling a warning there.

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 20:25 - 443 of 10502

Jeckyll & Hyde team City. Never know which one is gonna turn up.
Still think Arsenal will come on strong in the 2nd half. They usually do.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:29 - 444 of 10502

I have some money on 0-2 0-3 1-2 1-3 2-1 based upon outsized odds on the correct score. Have laid some of the others though as well.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:30 - 445 of 10502

Sounds like Man U are going to score.

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 20:31 - 446 of 10502

Am tempted to back Arsenal now at these odds if only on the basis I expect them to score in the second half.

City sound a bit strong at the moment though.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:35 - 447 of 10502

Odds have drifted quite quickly. At least Arsenal have half time to comtemplate things.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 21:22 - 448 of 10502

Good call Harlosh if you did it you just bagged a big one!

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 21:22 - 449 of 10502

It's not often I want Arsenal to score but I'm glad tonight

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 21:25 - 450 of 10502

Can't believe Man U have not scored. Glad I was not on that one.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 21:27 - 451 of 10502

All hands to the pumps for Man City now! Arsenal just hit the bar.
