THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Hays,

From a stable in the home counties own by wealthy tories who didn't get a plate at the recent "dinner".

Is it used for filtering money and donation to certain party constituency?

Are the members buying favours, future or present from the tory leadership?

What are the sizes of the donation?

Is Iver the right village to give donations to?

Nice to have money for fags.

cynic - 07 Jul 2014 11:44 - 43280 of 81564

as ukip will only win perhaps 5 seats at most, and the tories are the only ones at least offering a referendum, the others not being remotely interested, how do you then intend to vote?

Haystack - 07 Jul 2014 11:45 - 43281 of 81564

None of the polls are showing improved support for UKIP. It is a protest vote and most will revert to tribal loyalties.

'Smart meters’ to be put in every British home despite fears they may not work

The £11 billion Government plan to put ‘smart meters’ into every British home will be launched this week

7:22PM BST 06 Jul 2014

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/10949976/Smart-metersto-be-put-in-every-British-home-despite-fears-they-may-not-work.html

The £11 billion Government plan to put ‘smart meters’ into every British home will be launched this week despite fears they may not work and could open the national grid up to cyber-terrorists.

The meters, which are being introduced to meet EU green targets, will cost households £200 each in an effort to cut down energy consumption and reduce bills.

However official documents have shown that the meters save less energy than predicted and five other countries who had been considering the plan have ditched it after deciding it could cost more money than it saves.

Due to complex technology the metres will also not work in a third of British homes including rural houses, high-rise flats and basements.

Energy companies will begin the installation of smart meters next year at a cost of at least £200 per home, and have admitted the expense will be passed on to customers.

Sir Bob Geldof is launching the publicity drive and will be paid for his role in the campaign.

Smart meters work by recording gas and electricity consumption every 30 minutes. The metres are linked up to monitors called In-Home Displays, which show customers how much power they are consuming at any one time and how much it is costing them.

The Government hopes that having access to this real time information will encourage families to alter their energy use accordingly.

However the gas and electricity meters transfer information wirelessly using a communication hub called ZigBee which does not work in buildings with thick walls or in multi-storey flats.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has estimated the technology will see bills fall by £26 a year by 2020 and cut electricity usage by 2.8 per cent and gas by 2 per cent.

However an early study of 743 Dutch households found users consumed only 0.9 per cent less gas and 0.6 per cent less electricity.

A risk assessment carried out by the energy watchdog, Ofgem, has also identified ‘"a range of threats such as cyber, viruses and malicious software."

Margaret Hodge, the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, said: “This is a typical Government project – they set up a big scheme but don’t think about the costs to the consumer because it’s being driven by the energy companies.

This expensive equipment is already
out-of-date, because we could get the information on our smartphones.

“The Government should really think about the technology they are

using and make sure that the consumer benefits.”

MrT - I always but always vote, so I support whichever party I feel is least worst ..... that said, I can think of perhaps a handful of politicians for whom I would vote regardless of their allegiance

in fact, my constituency is a long way from marginal, so my vote is relatively inconsequential

TANKER - 07 Jul 2014 13:46 - 43294 of 81564

bob Geldof a druggie family telling me our to live. what a bloody joke
the man used famine to make is millions that is why he is rich getting thers to give money while he made money out of it .

if my energy company comes to fit one I will not allow them and if forced to have it put in will turn off the power ever night and ever time I go out then switch supplier
I do not want one do not need one .my human rights they keep on about I will take it to court or just have no energy .only via a generator

TANKER - 07 Jul 2014 13:47 - 43295 of 81564

cynic - 07 Jul 2014 13:48 - 43296 of 81564
