dont see much of humbug anymore, shame. lol.

Jeroo - 22 Apr 2003 12:31 - 437 of 591

Hello Hilary,

With regard to dividends: Surely the dividend must have to be added otherwise players short of the stock would gain an instant advantage?

jeffmack - 22 Apr 2003 12:41 - 438 of 591

jeroo
If you can buy and sell any time it would be an advantage. But the fact that you trade weekend to weekend does take away much of that advantage.

vasey - 22 Apr 2003 13:07 - 439 of 591

Please don't let's make this any harder for Hilary than is necessary. To me it's far more important that the game continues and doesn't tie one person up im agonizing hours of calculating dividend payments. Jeffmack is right. RR, as I type, is up 2.29% - almost 2p on Thursday's close - so any dividend advantage tomorrow is already mostly taken into consideration, surely.

hilary - 22 Apr 2003 13:30 - 440 of 591

Hello Jeroo,

Yes, you're correct in what you say. But Jeff and vasey also make very valid points, which is why GoldDog took his stance on dividends earlier on in the game and which I intend to follow through.

Hil
Files on its way, may take a while.

Many thanks Jeff.

Ursidae - 22 Apr 2003 14:44 - 443 of 591

Hi Hilary, hope you and every one had a good weekend.

MRW ex divi tom, 5242 @ 2.25p = 117.94 please Hilary. Thanks.

What happened to the hearts & kisses? There one min, the next being chased around by coloured balls! Must have been an Easter treat.

foale - 22 Apr 2003 15:48 - 444 of 591

I agree with Jeroo...post 436

Just looked back at the rules
Could see nothing on dividends..
Surely there should be something

Why cant we make it a rule that those
who are short in divi week HAVE to tell you
of the calc amount of the adjustment..
Same as with those long..

after all we can clearly see who is short
the big divi payers.
That way we are all on a level playing field

and its no additional work for Hilary..
apart from adjusting the amount

jeffmack - 22 Apr 2003 17:35 - 445 of 591

Let Hilary decide and leave it at that. Its only a game and as long as we all play under the same rules thats how it should stay.

little willie - 22 Apr 2003 18:36 - 446 of 591

Jeffers, busy times in the Bank tea rooms eh?; don't they mind you playing with their computer toys, I agree tho' Hils for President*, let her decide, those that do the graft should be allowed to make the decisions.
How's those Lions doing, haven't heard their roars theseabouts.
Do ya reckon fate will put The Saints name on the Big Silver Spitoon next month? Ya all do, well yeehoow!!!!!!!!!!!!lw

hilary - 23 Apr 2003 08:55 - 447 of 591

Hello foale,

The only problem with "having" to advise on a dividend is that there are probably a few players who may not even realise that their pick is going ex. As Jeff says, it's only a game and I really would rather that it were kept as simple as possible. Besides which, I shorted a stock earlier on in the game which was going ex and it ended up going up in the week which possibly goes to show that divi plays are not necessarily the way to win the game.

The simplest way for me to deal with dividends is to manually adjust the opening price of the position. For instance, Ursidae opened his MRW position at 190.75p. I'll simply amend that opening price to 188.5p and so the 2.25p divi will then be reflected in his current p&l a/c.

I'll update the game later this morning.

foale - 23 Apr 2003 10:11 - 448 of 591

ok...Look I will keep quiet for the time being

but if I see blatent abuse of the system re shorting large dividends
plays and not asking for the divi amount to be taken off
(or restating of the entry price as you mention above which is all I am requesting) I will be making my point again

I know we need simple rules and its only a game.
But it should be fair to all

Jeroo - 23 Apr 2003 10:46 - 449 of 591

and accurate.

hilary - 23 Apr 2003 12:05 - 450 of 591

With thanks to Jeff, the updated table can be viewed by clicking here.

foale & Jeroo,

I've already stated that I'm happy to apply the dividend adjustments. I'm reliant though upon the good nature of the individual players to advise when an adjustment needs to be made. I've taken the game over in GoldDog's continued absense, and the manner in which I'm set up to update the tables consumes the minimum amount of my time. I don't really wish to make work for myself by spending time scanning the dividend list so as to maintain 100% accuracy.

At the moment, nobody is seeking to deliberately gain an advantage through shorting the divi stocks, so there's not really any problem.

Crocodile - 23 Apr 2003 13:39 - 451 of 591

Hilary
2 ex div stocks to account for.
RR. gained yesterday as people bought for the dividend and only down 3.5% on the day today so almost flat on the trade.
Fortunately I traded them for real as well and did rather better!
It is complex but as far as I can work it out with those adjustments I seem to have gained by the dividend something less than 1000. If everyone is happy with that please adjust my balance by -1000.
Now to hope for further falls as both the stocks trigger TA sell signals.
I really wish I hadnt chosen 3 shorts with the market going up like a rocket!

Thanks for all your hard work
D.

foale - 23 Apr 2003 13:58 - 452 of 591

Hilary once again thanks for running the game on our behalf

I thought that mouse thingy on the table very clever
cant stop playing with it!

Mr Ashley James - 23 Apr 2003 14:14 - 453 of 591

Hil,

Where has GD gone?

hilary - 23 Apr 2003 15:39 - 454 of 591

Croc,

No problem. I'll edit your table accordingly to reflect the divis.

foale,

I'm glad that you liked the mouse thingy. Only another 6k of profit and it'll be your name on there.

Ashley,

Nobody knows where he is. He just went awol a few weeks ago.
