THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

School amazed as letter goes global

The letter Rachel Tomlinson wrote to children at Barrowford Primary School in Lancashire
16 JULY 2014

A headteacher has said she is "amazed" that her letter to pupils telling them not to worry about exam results has gone round the world.

Rachel Tomlinson wrote to children at Barrowford Primary School in Nelson, Lancashire: "The scores you get will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything."

The letter, jointly written by Mrs Tomlinson and Year 6 teacher Amy Birkett, was handed to pupils who received their Key Stage 2 results - the school's best ever.

It read: "Please find enclosed your end of KS2 results. We are very proud of you as you demonstrated huge amounts of commitment and tried your very best during this tricky week.

"However, we are concerned that these tests do not always assess all of what it is that makes each of you special and unique. The people who create these tests and score them do not know each of you the way your teachers do, the way I hope to, and certainly not the way your families do.

"They do not know that many of you speak two languages. They do not know that you can play a musical instrument or that you can dance or paint a picture. They do not know that your friends count on you to be there for them or that your laughter can brighten the dreariest day.

"They do not know that you write poetry or songs, play or participate in sports, wonder about the future, or that sometimes you take care of your little brother or sister after school. They do not know that you have travelled to a really neat place or that you know how to tell a great story or that you really love spending time with special family members and friends.

"They do not know that you can be trustworthy, kind or thoughtful, and that you try, every day, to be your very best… the scores you get will tell you something, but they will not tell you everything.

"So enjoy your results and be very proud of these but remember there are many ways of being smart."

Mrs Tomlinson told BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour: "We are amazed at the furore it has caused actually overnight.

"Many of our parents and children have just accepted it as normal because that is how we are normally with our children. We celebrate every bit of them.

"The value of education cannot be denied but I think we need to celebrate more than that."

A message on the school's Twitter page read: "Wow. There are posts all over the world about this letter!! All we did was remind our Y6 how amazing they are!!! "

Laura Sandys’ damaging parting shot shows even Cameron’s own MPs have lost confidence in his leadership

Responding to Laura Sandys’ warning to David Cameron that the ‘economic recovery is not just about the centre of London, or even rich Canterbury’, Michael Dugher MP, Labour’s Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office said:

"David Cameron and his party are running scared of UKIP. This damaging parting shot shows that even Cameron’s own MPs have lost confidence in his leadership.

"On the issues that matter to working people, the Tories have let the country down. They are haemorrhaging members and David Cameron is increasingly pandering to his right wing.

"Laura Sandys has laid bare what hardworking families know already: in the real world there is a cost-of-living crisis and the government is failing to improve living standards for all."

Does Hilary make a mean cup of tea. ?

MaxK - 16 Jul 2014 21:10 - 43804 of 81564

Tory MP's are just following the average ex-tory voter.

No one outside Haystack and the focus groups believe a word Cameroon says.

goldfinger - 16 Jul 2014 21:13 - 43805 of 81564

Ive got news for you Max even Camoron doesnt believe what he says himself, as its all scripted by Linton Crosby.

He just presses the button on a remote control and it all drivels out of Daves mouth.

goldfinger - 16 Jul 2014 21:15 - 43806 of 81564

Harriet Harman taken out of context today oh her radio speech.

Camoron wont stop at nothing but he'l get found out on polling day.

Miliband and Harman Divided on Tax

Look closely at the contrasting reactions of Miliband and Harman to Cameron’s PMQs ambush. Dave reads Harman’s words back to her: “I think people on middle incomes should contribute more through their taxes”. Miliband looks at Harman, then turns back towards the PM, shaking his head and waving his hand dismissively. Harman, meanwhile, nods and says, “they should… it’s true”.

goldfinger - 16 Jul 2014 21:49 - 43808 of 81564

Yes and your doing exactly as Camoron did today.

Hes taken it out of context and Milliband is saying what a wally you are camoron whilst harriet is refering yes to her progressive tax policy.

goldfinger - 16 Jul 2014 21:52 - 43809 of 81564

Dont forget Hays Labour will move from an income tax system to an asset tax system, firstly with the Mansion tax which the Lib/Dems will fully support, and then its onto the community charge.

Third up will be inheritance tax.

Labour wont forget how you Tories have bullied the poor.

Haystack - 16 Jul 2014 21:57 - 43810 of 81564

The Conservatives are going to run and run with Harman's comment that middle income people should pay more tax. It is going to be brought up time and time again up to the GE. What will Miliband do? Will he be forced to say that there will be no tax rises for middle income earners. It is going to be fun watching him squirm for the next 9 months.

Fred1new - 16 Jul 2014 22:01 - 43811 of 81564

I think that mannerism was showing disbelief at Cameron's obvious stupidity.

Like many who watch PMQs.

Farage has vision for Britain, admits top target Tory
Laura Sandys, the MP who holds the seat Nigel Farage most wants, says the Ukip leader has a vision for Britain that goes beyond material wealth

Nigel Farage, Ukip’s leader, and his members have plenty of reasons for being chipper at the moment

By Matthew Holehouse, Political Correspondent6:05PM BST 16 Jul 2014 Comments185 Comments
Nigel Farage is a threat because he offers a “vision for Britain” that goes beyond material wealth, the outgoing Conservative MP for one of Ukip’s top target seat has admitted.
Laura Sandys, the MP for South Thanet, suggested the Tories currently have a “transactional” manifesto that emphasises how people can become wealthier.
Mr Farage “put the pin in the loom” of that approach when he claimed he did not mind if Britain was poorer if it left the European Union, because the remark conveyed a “set of values” that the Government has struggled to articulate.
Mr Farage has made clear that South Thanet is one of only a few Kent seats he would contest in 2015.
Mrs Sandys announced she was stepping down just three years after being elected, citing family responsibilities.
The comments were made before David Cameron sought to counter the Ukip threat with a sweeping reshuffle that promoted a series of eurosceptics and dismissed an Attorney General who opposed withdrawing from the European Convention on Human Rights.
Michael Fallon, the new Defence Secretary, yesterday said he hoped to win over voters who had “flirted with Ukip”. “The public seem to be quite eurosceptic now,” he said.

According to a leaked recording of a conference in London, Mrs Sandys warned that despite the Conservative party’s values, “at the moment we have a bit of a transactional type manifesto”.
“And the problem with that is that when Farage absolutely put the pin in the loom of transactional politics was when somebody said - I think it was in the debate with Nick Clegg, 'Well of course if we leave Europe we are going to be poorer'. And he said 'I don't mind'.
“Because it's actually not about that financial issue, it is about a vision for Britain. It's about a set of values and a narrative, and he's not saying that everyone is going to be a multi-millionaire banker.”
The Conservatives must “start joining the dots” to show they do not “look badly” on people who “want to enjoy their life” rather than working 24-7, she said.
On Tuesday David Cameron appointment Penny Mordaunt as the Minister for Coastal Communities. The move was seen as significant as experts believe Ukip’s heartlands are in depressed seaside towns such as Grimsby and Blackpool.
Ms Sandys said Britain’s coastal towns are “different worlds”, with average wages of just £16,500 in her constituency.
“We've got to be really clear that the economic recovery is not just about the centre of London, or even rich Canterbury. It has to be pushed into every nook and cranny, we've got to flush out the economic vibrancy of every community.”
Michael Dugher, the Labour shadow cabinet minister, said: “David Cameron and his party are running scared of UKIP. This damaging parting shot shows Cameron's MPs have lost confidence in his leadership.”

Hazy one.

I am glad you have a job, I hope it is zero hours one.

======

What I want the present bunch of liars in the cabinet is to state the number of Doctors, nurses working part time in the NHS.

Also, the lying b.s can also state number of hours worked rather than those said to be employed.

Also, the number of self employed actually earning a living wage.

I hope after the next election there is an enquiry into the false presentation of figures and statistics produce by the present clowns in charge,
