How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?
Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Kids are home from a day out so greened up and closing out now or I'll get it in the neck from the missus. 93 whatever happens.
I have just been playing the book that it is, no great insight.

Just gone green on the Scotland game having got myself out of a sticky situation when scalping on the Scots. That'll teach me not to scalp on the underdogs!

For those interested in the tennis check out Blake v Nadal. Blake took the 1st set and Nadal has just levelled up. This could well be a good one to scalp on the Nadal side.

Thought Italy would have pulled it off, but still made a profit overall, so happy(ish)!

That delayed settlement irritated me and IMHO didn't do Betfair any favours.
For myself (and probably a few others who are equally daft) although I still had some funds on account I was not inclined to trade AT ALL when the majority of my account was tied up. Such was the free-money situation on this event that I had committed over 75% of my account.
To Mrs C's approval, I worked in the garden and earned some brownie points yesterday. Had my account been available to trade I'd probably have joined in the fun on the footie.
I did email Betfair asking why, when so far as I could see, the necessary information was in the public domain, they couldn't either settle the market or post a brief explanation on the forum BB. I got this reply:-
----------
Thank you for your e-mail.
I apologize for the delay when settling for, once the official result
has been verified we settle the market as soon as possible.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further
enquiries.
Kind regards

Can you spot the evidence that this is a standard response? They were not even bothered to make reference to which market was in question. Now I don't doubt that they get deluged with email but they could head a fair proportion of it off if they made pertinent postings on their own forum.
Rant over :-)

I know I and several others pestered them to settle. It was very annoying but not entirely unexpected, as you say did themselves no favours. No trading today out in the garden giving it a long overdue makeover. Strange things going on in it, some shrubs have started to flower again!

4-0 after 30 minutes - anyone who thinks England have a chance of winning the world cup - or anyone else for that matter - may need to think again

I would normally switch to the other markets now, but the liquidity is poor. Have opened a small position on total goals and next goal market.

Out of interest does anyone know how far the odds on Wales fell yesterday before the goal ?
Haven't seen the goal but read on teletext it was a deflection ... lucky sods :-)
I backed Brazil just before they scored the second , had a cup of coffee and it was all over !

WOODIE ... I think attheraces is delayed by about 5 seconds plus the satellite time.
I don't follow the horses but on the occasions I have watched attheraces you could lose a fortune if you were betting in running believing it to be live.

"Out of interest does anyone know how far the odds on Wales fell yesterday before the goal"
If you give me the starting odds I can work it out.
Typically the price on Wales would have been steady and England would have drifted as the draw came in during the first half. This would have changed slightly as the second half progressed.
