goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

UK has fastest-growing economy, International Monetary Fund says
The International Monetary Fund has upgraded its forecast for UK growth to 3.2 per cent this year and 2.7 per cent in 2015

Britain's economy is growing faster than those of every other major developed country, the International Monetary Fund has disclosed.
In a vindication of George Osborne’s economic plan, the IMF upgraded its forecast for UK growth to 3.2 per cent this year and 2.7 per cent in 2015.
The upward revision of 0.4 percentage points in 2014 and 0.2 percentage points in 2015 from the last forecast in April was the largest upgrade of any major western economy for both years. Britain is expected to grow faster than countries including America, Germany, France and Canada.

All those dodgy numbers Haystack, simply confirms just how bad the rest is, not how well single hour contract Britain is doing.

Polishing a turd is the quote that comes to mind.

Haystack - 25 Jul 2014 00:06 - 44266 of 81564

The IMF have upgraded our growth above Osborne's figure because they are so confident of our economy. Miliband and co must be in floods of tears.

goldfinger - 25 Jul 2014 02:32 - 44267 of 81564

LOL Hays...................an economy built on temporary jobs and low earnings and inflation which will lead to a rate rise.

Any numpty even Osbourne can get economic growth higher using slaves.

This points to what is more dangerous to the UK with this government:

2517GEORGE - 25 Jul 2014 08:57 - 44272 of 81564

3.2% growth, low unemployment, record numbers in employment, mostly looking good, just need to sort out low wages brought on by Labour's open door immigration policy and the coalitions failure to get to grips with the same.

Does anyone other than Haystack really think that Cameroon will be prime minister after the next election? Really??

David Cameron isn't even trying to change our relationship with the EU. Exit is the only option

By Douglas Carswell Politics Last updated: July 24th, 2014

Britain's relationship with the European Union needs to change, says David Cameron.

But in what way? Thus far we have had a conspicuous lack of detail.

Hints from Downing Street suggest that PM might look to tackle benefit tourism. Good. Or curb the power of human rights judges. Great. And end the "ever closer union". I like it.

But would such changes alone alter the fundamentals? No.

Nothing suggests that the PM is looking to change in Britain's EU status, as opposed to getting changes that would be applicable to all member states. A distinctive set of arrangements between us and the rest of Europe is simply not on Number 10's agenda.

The PM might well get a deal to limit the rights of EU citizens to claim benefits in other countries, but the new rules would apply in Germany or Finland every bit as much as in the UK.

A British Bill of Rights may well supersede the European Convention of Human Rights, but only by incorporating the latter into the former. We would be bound by the same – judicially approved – rules as everyone else.

One can take out an reference to "ever closer union" from official documents, but the acquis communautaire – the engine of integration – would remain intact.

Indeed Mr Cameron has specifically ruled out trying to negotiate any kind of trade-only deal. It is not even on the table. At the same time, Downing Street talks of extending the single market. Which is another way of saying "more regulatory power to Brussels".

And to cap it all, along comes a government whip in the House of Lord's, Lord Popat, to tell us that leaving the EU is "not an option".

I'm not sure the good Lord Popat quite grasps how this democracy thingy works. In the 2017 referendum, out really will be an option. And the way the Government seems to be playing it by not even trying to strike a substantially new deal, it's an increasingly compelling one.

Yep. I do. My family does. My friends do. My colleagues do. I'd say it's pretty much nailed on.

The fact is that he comes across as being a bit of a slime-ball, but he's doing an excellent job under very difficult circumstances. You just need to be patient and wait for the UKIPpers to return to the fold (which they'll do in the coming months), and then he'll romp home.

jimmy b - 25 Jul 2014 09:26 - 44275 of 81564

I think he will too ,because of the alternative , Milliband god forbid

However i think Camerons a bit of a wet blanket .

goldfinger - 25 Jul 2014 09:47 - 44276 of 81564

Not a chance.

Cameron will be faced with an interest rate rise before the GE........this will certainly turn people against him and UKIP will spoil his day.

His own man, Lord Ashcroft shows in the key marginals this week that Labour have an 8% lead and the trend is rising.

Hes built an economy on credit and subsidised housing.

Peoples living standards are 12% to 15% down from when he came to power.

Any Tom Dick and Harry can get GDP growth at 3% plus using the slave trade.
