Only another suggestion prehaps 32bit it to high, you could try 24 bit see if it will take that setting, that may be the maximum it will take !!!

TOK, do you know what resolution you were using before? Try 16 colours on 800x600. It should change it immediately. I'm assuming you've checked that you actually have a VX700 on an ATI 3D Rage Pro card :-)

The Other Kevin - 13 Apr 2006 13:21 - 4441 of 11003

Hi Kayak

Don't know previous settings. Settings shows VX and ATI and Belarc shows the same so I assume that's whatI've got.

Tried 800 x 600 which moved the 16 bit up to 256. Rebooted and back to 16 bit and 640 x 480 and this wishy washy monitor.

Noticed that on close down there are psychedlic strips of light that flash across the monitor briefly.

Mega Bucks - 13 Apr 2006 13:24 - 4442 of 11003

Dont worry about the monitors flashing strips of light, its just the good gear your smoking :-))

The Other Kevin - 13 Apr 2006 13:33 - 4443 of 11003

MB - I'll need some if I can't sort this soon.

Kayak - 13 Apr 2006 13:35 - 4444 of 11003

TOK, best way to see what monitor you have is to look at the label at the back :)

The Other Kevin - 13 Apr 2006 13:40 - 4445 of 11003

VX700

The other alternative is to download a new driver for the graphics. Windows sometimes reverts to the default Windows driver.

Getting too technical for me

Kayak - 13 Apr 2006 13:55 - 4451 of 11003

OK got you Haystack :-)

Kayak - 13 Apr 2006 13:57 - 4452 of 11003

TOK, try going into the System Devices list, click on Display Adapters, right-click and Uninstall on the card name, and do the same for Monitors. Then reboot.

i think i might have a problem with my speed on NTL,i have a 10 meg connection,
i have done these tests,(see below)
NTL techies have said my speed is ok,

Your estimated download speed is: 3,499 kbits/sec (437 KBytes/sec) (max estimated speed is 2mb)

Download speed: 2004 kilobits per second
Test details: 3354 kilobytes downloaded in 13.39 seconds.

Your line speed:

13161.3 Kbps

1612.9 K bytes/sec

Your line speed:

8680.9 Kbps

1063.8 K bytes/sec

Your current bandwidth reading is: 4.68 Mbps

which means you can download at 599.19 KB/sec. from our servers.

768 kbps DSL
1000 kbps DSL
1500 kbps DSL/T1/Cable Modem
4793.5 kbps YOU

the way NTL said they calculate is i was getting a download speed of 1.16 then X 8 which = 9 meg conection, and they said it was good,
does this add up or are they doing a syed,(make it up as they go)

can someone please tell me if i am getting the 10 meg speed that i am paying for,

thanks in Ad

GRAEME.ALEXANDER - 13 Apr 2006 21:29 - 4454 of 11003

scussy.
I have 4meg cable with bluyonder and have judt run the test from ADSL web site.
I got 3852 Kbps downstream and 357 upstream, these are upper limit for 4meg.
for info my downstream was less than 1/2 this last week and they tried to tell me that it was alright but I tried 3 different tech guys untill one spent about 30 mins changing settings and the speeds shot up. (do not ask what he made me do as I do not have a clue, I would rather deal with Traffic Wardens than change settings). Graeme.

scussy - 13 Apr 2006 23:03 - 4455 of 11003

thanks Graeme,
so it looks like they are telling porkies,i don't like changing my settings as they just read from a book in india,my speed was ok untill my boy started downloading films,so maybe they don't like the amount we are using,
