How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

I have some money on 0-2 0-3 1-2 1-3 2-1 based upon outsized odds on the correct score. Have laid some of the others though as well.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:30 - 445 of 10502

Sounds like Man U are going to score.

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 20:31 - 446 of 10502

Am tempted to back Arsenal now at these odds if only on the basis I expect them to score in the second half.

City sound a bit strong at the moment though.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 20:35 - 447 of 10502

Odds have drifted quite quickly. At least Arsenal have half time to comtemplate things.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 21:22 - 448 of 10502

Good call Harlosh if you did it you just bagged a big one!

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 21:22 - 449 of 10502

It's not often I want Arsenal to score but I'm glad tonight

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 21:25 - 450 of 10502

Can't believe Man U have not scored. Glad I was not on that one.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 21:27 - 451 of 10502

All hands to the pumps for Man City now! Arsenal just hit the bar.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 21:42 - 452 of 10502

Made a small loss over all. Made lots of Chelsea and a loss on Arsenal and a net loss of a few quid. Used the money I made on Chelsea to cover the Arsenal postion.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 21:51 - 453 of 10502

Just made it back trading the draw on Man U and Spurs. Can't believe that Spurts goal that wasn't!!

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 21:52 - 454 of 10502

Tough night but made a nice little profit. You just never know do you.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 21:54 - 455 of 10502

An interesting night for sure!!

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 21:55 - 456 of 10502

Did the same Scrip trading the draw but got a bit hairy so settled for a decent amount

Fundamentalist - 04 Jan 2005 21:55 - 457 of 10502

Evening all

backed arsenal at 5.5 - greened up at 2.7 - takes away some of the pain of not beating city

if you watch the highlights tonite have a look at the goal totenham had disallowed - bounced 3 ft over the line

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 21:56 - 458 of 10502

Now I wonder if there is anything else to have go at. Darts maybe?

Harlosh - 04 Jan 2005 21:57 - 459 of 10502

Nice trade Steve.

Fundamentalist - 04 Jan 2005 22:02 - 460 of 10502

Cheers john

Im already greened up on the aussie cricket starting at 11 - so im going to have a few hands of poker - won $1500 the last 2 nights

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 22:21 - 461 of 10502

"but got a bit hairy" - Makes your heart thump doesn't it?

I was green on the draw but not the match when the goal that wasn't went in. Quickly started the trade again when the confusion cleared and finally stopped at 1.04 but probably could have nabbed one more trade before the match finished but I was a spent force by then!!

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 22:23 - 462 of 10502

Fundy, that was the trade of the night as identified by Harlosh at the time. I didn't do it though as I had too many postions open already. Would have been a good one. You could have covered on the next goal market as well.

Scripophilist - 04 Jan 2005 22:24 - 463 of 10502

Q. Any body spot the error with this goal?

carroll_gaffe.jpg

A. Err, apparantly is wasn't one!! How utterly totally bizarre!! Spurs were robbed!

However on this occasion I would like to congratulate this referring decision!! ;-)
