I agree with Jeroo...post 436
Just looked back at the rules
Could see nothing on dividends..
Surely there should be something
Why cant we make it a rule that those
who are short in divi week HAVE to tell you
of the calc amount of the adjustment..
Same as with those long..
after all we can clearly see who is short
the big divi payers.
That way we are all on a level playing field
and its no additional work for Hilary..
apart from adjusting the amount

Let Hilary decide and leave it at that. Its only a game and as long as we all play under the same rules thats how it should stay.

Hello foale,
The only problem with "having" to advise on a dividend is that there are probably a few players who may not even realise that their pick is going ex. As Jeff says, it's only a game and I really would rather that it were kept as simple as possible. Besides which, I shorted a stock earlier on in the game which was going ex and it ended up going up in the week which possibly goes to show that divi plays are not necessarily the way to win the game.
The simplest way for me to deal with dividends is to manually adjust the opening price of the position. For instance, Ursidae opened his MRW position at 190.75p. I'll simply amend that opening price to 188.5p and so the 2.25p divi will then be reflected in his current p&l a/c.
I'll update the game later this morning.

ok...Look I will keep quiet for the time being
but if I see blatent abuse of the system re shorting large dividends
plays and not asking for the divi amount to be taken off
(or restating of the entry price as you mention above which is all I am requesting) I will be making my point again
I know we need simple rules and its only a game.
But it should be fair to all

With thanks to Jeff, the updated table can be viewed
by clicking here.
foale & Jeroo,
I've already stated that I'm happy to apply the dividend adjustments. I'm reliant though upon the good nature of the individual players to advise when an adjustment needs to be made. I've taken the game over in GoldDog's continued absense, and the manner in which I'm set up to update the tables consumes the minimum amount of my time. I don't really wish to make work for myself by spending time scanning the dividend list so as to maintain 100% accuracy.
At the moment, nobody is seeking to deliberately gain an advantage through shorting the divi stocks, so there's not really any problem.

Hilary
2 ex div stocks to account for.
RR. gained yesterday as people bought for the dividend and only down 3.5% on the day today so almost flat on the trade.
Fortunately I traded them for real as well and did rather better!
It is complex but as far as I can work it out with those adjustments I seem to have gained by the dividend something less than 1000. If everyone is happy with that please adjust my balance by -1000.
Now to hope for further falls as both the stocks trigger TA sell signals.
I really wish I hadnt chosen 3 shorts with the market going up like a rocket!
Thanks for all your hard work
D.

Croc,
No problem. I'll edit your table accordingly to reflect the divis.
foale,
I'm glad that you liked the mouse thingy. Only another 6k of profit and it'll be your name on there.
Ashley,

I've just updated the game which can be viewed
by clicking here.
I've deducted the dividend amount from the opening price of vasey and croc's relevant trades.
Hightone,
I think that the goobledegook that you can sometimes see at the top of the page is possibly a fault of the free webhosting service which I've been using. Unfortunately, I can't remember my DSL Pipex password to register for my free webspace with them. Don't worry about the formulae failing to convert. That's a problem in the html conversion, but the positions are all accurate.

I'm going to struggle updating the game tonight as I'm going to see Johnny English in a little while and Jeff will have left work by the time I get back.
I'll see what I can do to get an updated table online asap, but, in the meantime, don't forget to post your trades for this weekend. Remember the 12 noon Sunday deadline!
