Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Britain has taken longer to recover from recession than at any time since the South Sea Bubble
The Coalition’s triumphalism over restoring output to its starting level is totally misplaced

What with Ed Balls-Up calling everything wrong whilst in opposition, it's a dead cert that we would not even have had the (tepid) recovery seen under the coalition.

Re - Indépendance Referendum ........ If Fred had half a brain he would realise that Scot v Scot has a lot more credence in Scotland. Of course if Darling fails and Scotland gains independence Labour are toast. A minor detail by the way :O)

Housing sector taking a hit this morning.
Talk of 'right to buy under threat'.........
Britain’s largest mortgage lender has reduced the amount it will lend to first-time buyers under the Help to Buy scheme. Lloyds Banking Group has capped its lending at £150,000, down from £500,000 – a reduction of 70pc.
Property experts warned the cap will make it harder for first-time buyers to purchase a property, particularly in areas of rising house prices.
They also said it could prompt other lenders to rein in their Help to Buy offers, with the Government under pressure to close the scheme.

CC,
There is actually a counter-argument to the concept of Labour drifting into political oblivion for 25 years if Scotland gain independence and lose all of those seats, despite the fact that it's a nice idea.
Basically, the Scottish arm of the Labour is more left-wing than its English counterpart, so, without the influence of the commie Jocks, the Labour party will naturally position itself closer to the centre over time and, as a result it will become more attractive to the masses and, therefore, not drift into the wilderness for so long as some think.

£150k for a first time buyer seems over the top, never mind the £500k, which is just plain absurd.
The average wage in the UK is £25k, and a lot less than that in reality.

Shortie,
Bernie Ecclestone was a customer of my husband's many moons ago when he used to run Motor Racing Developments in Chessington. Everything had to be just soooooooo precise and exact. My husband used to go back to the office and work out a price for the job, he'd then double it, and then add another £10k for luck because of the aggro factor.

Scottish independence TV debate: First blood to Alistair Darling as he clashes over currency with Alex Salmond in televised Yes/No debate
James Cusick Author Biography
Political Correspondent
Wednesday 06 August 2014
The issue of what currency an independent Scotland would use sparked heated exchanges in the first televised referendum debate between the First Minister, Alex Salmond, and Alistair Darling, the leader of the pro-Union Better Together campaign.
With barely six weeks until Scotland votes on whether or not it should become an independent state, Mr Salmond markedly refused to state what his “plan B” would be if Westminster refused to let Scots continue to use the pound.
The gloves came off when the former Chancellor, Mr Darling, chose to personally attack the Scottish National Party leader’s promises on the pound by stating: “An eight-year-old can tell you what Scotland’s capital and flag is. But you can’t tell us what Scotland’s currency will be.”
