All,

My PC is constantly having intrusion attempts blocked by my firewall.

The IP address doing this is always the same, 62.190.233.86

There are some numbers in brackets after the IP address, and these vary, (4419), (3106), and (2041) after each attempt.

Is there anyway this IP can be traced using free online tools please?

I have tried Geektools, and the reply it gave was ambiguous, although it seems the other user is a Pipex user.

Someone told me there is a way to trace the IP address to the town / area it originates in, and if possible, I would like to do this.

Any help appreciated.

I would really like to know which town/city this is coming from.

Here's one for the conspiracy theorists.

Occasionally, I look to see who has poked at my router. Mostly it's anonymous ISP users with little chance of ever finding the prober.

However, over the last few days, my router has been repelling probes on various ports from 34.168.1.34.

This is in the IP netblock owned by none less than the mighty Halliburton company of Houston, TX (Prop: Dick Cheney).

Now, why would they poke at me -- unless, of course, it's customer service because they know I own one of their fine aircraft aluminium attache cases ;-)

My pc has just been 'cleaned' to get rid of Spyware. I omitted to ask them to save program Freehand10, I have a document produced in Freehand10 that I need to open and print today if poss, any ideas please? Regards, John.

DocProc - 19 Apr 2006 09:06 - 4474 of 11003

Which program did you use for the spyware clean?

For instance, I use Ad-Aware SE. It's Help section says,

Quarantine files are used to isolate and backup items detected during a scan and gives you the option to reinstall them at a later time.

Items moved to the quarantine folder will be encrypted and compressed, and can only be read and restored using the built in quarantine manager in Ad-Aware SE.

Restore quarantined objects
1. Open the quarantine list by clicking on the quarantine button or the "Open quarantine list" link on the Status screen
2. Select the quarantine file you want to restore
3. Right click and select "Restore selected" in the context menu or use the "Restore" button

john1943- Why not go to the Macromedia site and download a copy (to evaluate)

john1943 - 19 Apr 2006 09:20 - 4476 of 11003

I don't know Doc, the computer place I bought from did it for me. I was so busy the day I took it in I did not have time to think exactly what I needed to save.
I'm hopeless with any technical stuff. I can get hold of a Freehand 10 program disc, but not for a couple of days, I really needed to be able to open document today.
Thanks for replying, John.

DocProc - 19 Apr 2006 09:48 - 4477 of 11003

Ask them what they used. Then come back on here with the info'.

Bolshi - 19 Apr 2006 09:50 - 4478 of 11003

I am unable to do a "System Restore". Windows XP for home.
I've had a minor problem over the last few days - nothing urgent but when I open mail In BT/Yahoo it gives an error (url not found) but when I click on "in box" everything is fine. It began to get on my nerves and I decided to try a System Restore to about a week ago.
I went to Start and then Help & Support and did it from there. I've tried it twice now for different restore dates but it goes through all the motions and when it restarts my pc I get a cannot restore message and nothing has been changed. I find this a bit worrying in case I get a major problem sometime and if I really NEED to restore I'm afraid I could be ****ed!

DocProc - 19 Apr 2006 10:07 - 4479 of 11003

There's some good stuff on re-enabling or troubleshooting System Restore

HERE

Thanks Doc. That's given me something to get my teeth into.

A chum of mine is using a telephone handset through his USB connection to talk with Skype.

Is there any way he can turn off the internal loudspeaker in his laptop?

He can turn it off by plugging something into his audio socket, but that then kills the sound on the USB!
