THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Just been talking to a 'Solar Panel' salesman. :-)

Panels: Degradation? Efficiency? Self Cleaning? German? Chinese? Warranty length?
String connections or Parallel connections (or not?)
Power Optimisation vs MicroInverters? Warranty length?
Monitoring of output?
Quality or History of installer company? Credit check?
Qualifications of Installer? Warranty?
Likely output?
Financial Yield? Payback time? Beating inflation? Losing bank interest?
Include a separate water heater or not?
How many quotations?
Own installers?
Scaffolders - own team? Regular contractors? How long before and after installation?

Cost seems to range from £6,500 - £7,500 for a 4kWH installation of 16 No. x 250w panels
Financial Savings seem to be around £800 - £1,200 pa (give or take).

These and a few more topics besides are just a few of the considerations.

Fortunately, Planning Permission isn't required!
Conclusions?

Hey! This is definitely worth doing but take care what you buy and who you buy it from!

Anyone else done this and had some installed?

Cheers George.

Fred1new - 07 Aug 2014 16:45 - 44697 of 81564

Thanks GF.

Many seem to have the Putin concept of any opposing opinions are invalid and should be surpressed.

--------

Greek,

Hadn't noticed you weren't posting.

Go back to your thin blue line.
--------

Hazy one.

It seems to me that your posting are generally filled with second hand hand downs with the mantras and hand downs from the con party HQ. God help them they seem in turmoil.

But I am notice views on opinion polls changing and see that you are realising the chances of you con party associates don't have a cat in hell's chance of forming a government the next UK government and Cameron with the residue of his grey matter thinks it is necessary to be in the EU.

--------
Exec,

You will have noticed, I hope, that the cartoons are not mine but those of the Guardian and Independent, as a personally I think a reasonable barometer of public opinion.

Think Matt's cartoon often hit the mark, but a different mark.

==========

Cynic,

The usual under-educated huff and puff from somebody in the mob commenting on something he purports not to have read.

As usual, consisting of unrewarding repartee.

=======

Anyway, have to admit it is a beautiful warm day in the Dordogne and the wine is delightfully cheap.

Fred1new - 07 Aug 2014 16:47 - 44698 of 81564

For Exec, Hazy One and Cynic the clowns are back, but hopefully not in power for much longer.

Fred1new - 07 Aug 2014 16:52 - 44699 of 81564

The one thing I admire about Cameron is how long he has held on to his job in spite of u-turn after U-turn, catastrophe after catastrophe and splitting his party.

It means that the Con party is a party of wealthy has beens and there is nobody able enough to replace him and lead them to defeat at the next election.

Fred1new - 07 Aug 2014 16:56 - 44700 of 81564

exec,

I have a solar panel on my motor home.

Very effective and runs the majority of my electrics.

Can be dodgy in winter but compensate by increasing number of storage batteries and also a back 15 amp generator. Rarely use the latter.

Many seem to have the Putin concept of any opposing opinions are invalid and should be surpressed.

There's nothing wrong with opposing views whatsoever. That's all a part of life's rich tapestry.

But when you bore the pants off normal folk day in, day out with the same incessant drivel and verbal diarrhea, to the point that sensible people leave the board in their droves because of YOU, then you've got to expect it when those people who remain get pissed off and tell you that you're a twat.

ExecLine - 07 Aug 2014 19:14 - 44703 of 81564

Come on Fred!

Please drop the crap cartoons and try a bit harder to entertain us with something else. :-)

Fingers crossed.

eg. Google: "StumbleUpon" to get some ideas.

ExecLine - 07 Aug 2014 19:20 - 44704 of 81564

Fred: To give you an idea or two here's some alternatives to crappy cartoons:

Postings on this thread over 44000.

Check your own threads and change your knickers.

What I write may be boring to you, but not to all.

Squelching may help you or just ignore the postings, there are many other threads and if you feel neglected start another to your liking and ask the Greek to join you.

By the way what are the odds on the conservatives failing at the next election?

It's Scotland's pound and we're keeping it, says Alex Salmond

First minister indicates independent Scotland would use sterling even if formal sterling zone was rejected by UK government

Alex Salmond has provoked a fresh battle over his plans for the Scottish currency after independence by declaring "it's our pound and we're keeping it."

The first minister gave the clearest indication yet that an independent Scotland would use sterling after a yes vote even if a formal sterling zone was rejected by the UK government – an option known as dollarisation or the Panama option.

As his opponents distributed leaflets shaped like a pound coin with Salmond's head replacing the Queen in a bid to mock his policies, the first minister insisted the UK government had no moral right to stop Scotland using sterling after a yes vote. During an ill-tempered session of first minister's questions, he said that if the UK government ignored a democratic endorsement by yes voters, Scotland would be entitled to renege on its share of the UK's debt. That would force the Treasury to pay an extra £5bn a year in debt repayments, Salmond claimed.

"The reason we are keeping the pound in a currency union, and the reason we are so unambiguous about it, is because we are appealing to the greatest authority of all, that is the sovereign will of the people of Scotland," he told Holyrood. "It is Scotland's pound. It doesn't belong to George Osborne [the UK chancellor], it doesn't belong to Ed Balls [the shadow chancellor]. It's Scotland's pound and we are keeping it."

Frankly I think the Scottish independence idea is a non starter.....it just doesn't make sense...the Scots know it...and it just doesn't add up at all....70% against..30% for will be at a guess the result....only thing left to do is give Alex Salmond a lordship of some kind....with an undisclosed wage (not too much)...and the possible prospect of Edinburgh hosting the winter olympics...(it is possible with the help of our Norwegian friends)...keep everybody happy...

Haystack - 07 Aug 2014 20:56 - 44708 of 81564

Salmond sounds more stupid by the day. He can have the pound if he wants, but it will just be a name. It won't be our pound as ours is run by the Bank of England and is bound by our exchange rate. Our pound involves the BoE being the lender of last resort. Its use require acceptance of our Chancellor, our budgets, our interest rates, our monetary controls, our bank rules and many other stipulations. He knows all these things and is just trying to con the Scottish public. I am in two minds as to whether I want to be shot of Scotland anyway. Can't we have a parallel referendum asks ng us if we want to tell Scotland to get lost.

It would not be worth having a bet on it all as the odds are rubbish because we can't get rid of them. The answer is going to be NO!

Haystack - 07 Aug 2014 20:58 - 44709 of 81564

Will they then change the name of the SNP.

ExecLine - 07 Aug 2014 21:32 - 44710 of 81564

The best odds for Scotland voting 'NO' to Independence are about 1/6

In other words, a £6,000 bet on it might well win you £1,000 less any expenses - but you would struggle to get that size of bet put on.

http://www.oddschecker.com/politics/british-politics/scottish-independence/referendum-outcome

It seems like it's a 'Cert' they will vote against independence.

Anyone recommend any potential sizeable bets to make on it anywhere?
