THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

The problem with internecine struggles is that they affect views in the wider world. The troubles in Iraq, Gaza, India, Pakistan and similar cause unthinking reactions of anti Islamic and anti semetism, which are wrong and target the wrong people.

Hays are you talking about anti semitism because we don't want a huge flag up at the entrance to an estate and British folk attacked because they don't like what it stands for ?

Tanker & co will need to take their Sovereign Shopriders for a fast getaway.

plenty of anti-semitism abounds both in uk and across europe, and i'm afraid it's a growing trend or even threat, depending on your point of view

EU reform? Dave should find that easy, says Boris: Johnson piles the pressure on the Prime Minister on Europe

London Mayor sets Cameron up to fail by boosting his chances in EU talks

Comes after Johnson confirmed he was looking for a seat for 2015 poll

Nick Clegg says Johnson's 'bumbliness' is a disguise for ruthless ambition

Boris Johnson yesterday piled the pressure on David Cameron over Europe by saying the PM’s bid to wrest back powers from Brussels should be ‘easy’.

A day after launching his audacious bid to return to Parliament, the London Mayor appeared to set Mr Cameron up to fail by saying there was little to prevent success in his European negotiations.

Senior Tories fear Mr Johnson is setting a ‘trap’ by demanding a string of unachievable reforms before he would agree to support continued membership of the European Union.

At least I can listen to Boris for 20 minutes before losing interest in what he is talking about. It's called 'charisma' and it's quite important a politician has this skill.

But Boris in Downing Street? Most people would think it is never going to happen.

Hmmm? I'd like it to happen. It really would make politics good fun.

Bummer! Here are 8 reasons why it won't happen:

Hairy one,

Would you also provide a list of Jewish councillors, or those of Jewish descent in Golders Green!

Cynic,

aldo - fred's persistent non-answers are those of a retired civil servant of some rank i suspect or something of that ilk

Unlike you, who either doesn’t think, or is incapable of so doing, I try to think before making comments about other people, or their postings. (I may be less egocentric than you appear.)

However, I refer you back to some previous postings I made about the need to modify the United Nations Charter and remove the ability by a small number of nations to prevent implementations of effective policies.

Also, to give the United Nations an effective police and the military force able to implement decisions made by the United Nations itself.

Until the United Nation receives the responsibility and effective “POWER” is given to it, then you will continue to have abuses of human rights such as Ukraine, Gaza and Israel, Iraq, Syria, Africa etc..

Reforms of international law are also needed to prevent the abuses of some money flow and armaments provisions.

Needed with this is a permanent effective investigatory and policing force to monitor these actions and prosecute when it is necessary.

The EU, USA and others countries seem to be attempting to move in that direction.
I suggest you re-read my previous postings about needs of the United Nations now and in the future.

Also, read your own abusive remarks made at that time.

I agree with Obama, in Iraq and his policies in general.
(He has to take the people of America along with his actions.)

The “World” is too interlinked for primitive tribal activities which we are now seeing around The World and advocated by those with a “little Englander mentality”.

As far as flying the Israeli, Welsh, English or Chinese flag in Britain is concerned; if it is illegal enforce the law and stop it. The flying of flags is unimportant; it is what goes with it that is the problem.

If you don’t like the law, vote in a government who will amend the law to your satisfaction, but don’t squawk when the law is applied against you for having different stances to the ruling body.

cynic - 08 Aug 2014 16:34 - 44770 of 81564

now you've got that out of your system, try going back to the question asked and answering it ...... lest you have forgotten the question .....

US President Barack Obama on Thursday night authorised air strikes to halt the advance in Iraq of Islamic militants and prevent a possible “genocide” in a substantial escalation of America’s military role in the country.

what is the view of this board?
please do not get sidetracked down the "gaza route", as that is not the question asked

for myself, i fear the consequences of both acting and of doing nothing at all.
on balance, i just about come down on the side of action, but am happy to leave the amis to do the dirty work

What for? Are they hanging a Star of David from the gates of Highgate Cemetery or summat?

Glasgow is in trouble. It is twin town with Bethlehem in the West Bank. They were asked to show solidarity and then raised the Palestinian flag on the council offices.

Fred's idea is best.

Call in the UN, they'll get it sorted, they have a good track record.

Also, form a world government (unelected) as it's the only way forward.

All problems sorted!

Waiting times in NHS at worst for six years
NHS waiting times are at their worst level for six years, official figures show, as 3.2m are waiting for treatment it has been admitted

By Rebecca Smith, Medical Editor4:53PM BST 07 Aug 2014 (Daily Telegraph)

Waiting times in the NHS are getting worse, with targets missed and more than 3.2m people waiting for treatment, officials have admitted.
Earlier this week, Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, ordered 100,000 extra treatments and operations be carried out this summer at a cost of £250m to bring the problem back under control.
He warned that targets would be missed in the short-term as staff had been told to concentrate on those who had been waiting the longest.
The latest official waiting times data bears that out as the target to treat 90 per cent of people who need to be admitted to hospital within 18 weeks of their GP referring them was missed in June. It meant 32,500 people waited longer than this.
The estimate of the total number waiting for treatment has been revised up from just over three million to 3.2m as five hospital trusts failed to submit the numbers waiting on their books.

Andy Burnham, shadow Health Secretary, responding to new NHS figures showing the Government has missed the operation waiting time target, thousands more patients waiting too long for treatment and 160,000 missing patients, said: "The Prime Minister promised to keep NHS waiting times down but these figures show he has failed the test he set himself.
"Under his Government, there are more people on NHS waiting lists and those patients are waiting longer for treatment. In June, the NHS missed its waiting time target with 32,500 people who waited longer than 18 weeks – the highest in six years. Under David Cameron, people are seeing a return that old Tory choice of suffering in silence or paying to go private.
"What people will find worrying about these figures is the admission for the first time that there are around 160,000 people waiting who are missing off official figures. People need to have a clear explanation as to why official figures have underestimated waiting lists and an assurance that this will immediately be put right.
"Today's revelations come just weeks after David Cameron told the Commons that waiting times were improving. This self-serving spin is of no use to people waiting in pain for their operation.
"David Cameron's reorganisation has dragged the NHS down to the point where it can no longer meet his waiting time targets. Its why you can't trust the Tories with the NHS."
A spokesman for the Department of Health said: "We know parts of the NHS are under pressure – that's why we've given the NHS support to do 100,000 extra operations this summer. By prioritising those who have waited the longest the NHS is likely to miss the target for a while but we expect it to get back on track later in the year."
