How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Someone laid 0-0 at 48.0 - could be painful

Piptrader - 07 Sep 2005 21:14 - 4488 of 10502

It probably seemed quite a good idea at the time:-)

bakko - 07 Sep 2005 21:15 - 4489 of 10502

Not as painful as the bloke who laid Liverpool for the European Cup at 400s last season!

Fundamentalist - 07 Sep 2005 21:16 - 4490 of 10502

Or those of us who lumped on England at 1.26 and again at 1.9

Fundamentalist - 07 Sep 2005 21:19 - 4491 of 10502

Oops

Scripophilist - 07 Sep 2005 21:19 - 4492 of 10502

SVEN out!

Piptrader - 07 Sep 2005 21:19 - 4493 of 10502

Scrip - thanks for the tip about <2.5 goals. Backed at 1.26, glad to say, and greened up now.

stuartreece - 07 Sep 2005 21:19 - 4494 of 10502

I'd put it a bit stronger than that

Scripophilist - 07 Sep 2005 21:20 - 4495 of 10502

I'm green on over unders and have a small amount on England but no losses.

Fundamentalist - 07 Sep 2005 21:21 - 4496 of 10502

I have a huge red against Ireland, a smallish red against the draw and a smallish green against England

Scripophilist - 07 Sep 2005 21:22 - 4497 of 10502

I'd be surprised if England can rescue this as they have been unable to break down NI so far, can't see them doing so now. Especially with their heads down.

Piptrader - 07 Sep 2005 21:24 - 4498 of 10502

When you said odds on England were too short before the match, I figured that therefore NI odds must be too long, so backed them. Offset the risk very quickly, never expecting to actually make anything from it. But now greened up on that as well - thanks again Scrip :-)

Fundamentalist - 07 Sep 2005 21:25 - 4499 of 10502

Scrip

theyre getting what they deserve - they have been awful - dont think weve had a shot on target all game.

The only good that may come out of the game is that finally someone at the FA may wake up and realise we'll win nothing with Sven in charge

Fundamentalist - 07 Sep 2005 21:26 - 4500 of 10502

Am I the only one getting shafted tonight ?? or is anyone else facing hefty losses ?

Scripophilist - 07 Sep 2005 21:26 - 4501 of 10502

60% of chance has to decay on the next 10 minutes on NI that's 6% a minute.

bakko - 07 Sep 2005 21:26 - 4502 of 10502

NI odds are shortening at quite a pace!

bakko - 07 Sep 2005 21:27 - 4503 of 10502

NI odds are shortening at quite a pace! Already grabbed a few ticks.

Scripophilist - 07 Sep 2005 21:28 - 4504 of 10502

Ditto

Scripophilist - 07 Sep 2005 21:32 - 4505 of 10502

Bakko, Keep greening using the manual bet tab each time, just in case.

Scripophilist - 07 Sep 2005 21:34 - 4506 of 10502

Keep your eye on extra time, the odds may jump when the extra time is announced.
