Australian strategist says he cannot see any advantage in prime minister taking part in leaders' election debates

Lynton Crosby, the Australian strategist paid £500,000 by David Cameron to help win him the general election, is determined to block the staging of leaders' debates on television.

Downing Street sources say Crosby has made clear in private talks with aides that he cannot see any advantage in Cameron taking part in the debates.

It is understood Crosby hopes that by complicating negotiations between the parties and the broadcasters over the number, style and timings of the debates, the debates can ultimately be avoided.

A source said: "The public think Ed Miliband is weird so why give him a chance to dissuade them of that opinion through the debates. Miliband might even be quite good at them – surely much better to have weeks of pictures of Cameron on industrial sites and factories talking about economic growth. There may be a few blokes dressed in chickens chasing him around but no one votes on whether a TV debate has been staged or not. That's Crosby's position."

Humanity could be wiped out by a massive asteroid that is hurtling towards earth at a speed of around 38,000 miles an hour, scientists have warned.

The 1950 DA asteroid has a good chance of colliding with earth on 16 March 2880, according to experts at the University of Tennessee.

Researchers initially believed that the asteroid had a one-in-300 chance of hitting earth, but revised the odds to one-in-4,000.

If the asteroid collides with earth, it will strike with the force of around 44,800 megatonnes of TNT – the equivalent of every nuclear weapon in the world detonating simultaneously, six times over.

Scientists say the impact would cause cataclysmic earthquakes and tsunamis, that would result in climate change that would entirely destroy human life.

The asteroid is rotating so fast that at its equator it effectively experiences negative gravity. If an astronaut were to attempt to stand on the surface, they would be thrown off into space.

Read majority of the previous postings and "question" the use of the word "sex".

Maybe be one could consider the "acts" as hedonistic acts for personal satisfaction.

If the acts are abusive by either force or coercion in anyway and detrimental to either concerned then the actions should be open to the normal course of law.

But many such or similar actions carried out in childhood and adolescence by many young people with little or no consequences, unless their actions are exposed for more public voyeurism at a later date, and subjected to evaluation.

The public outcry about so called "deviant" sex is out of proportion and demonstrate a degree of prudery which is not always practiced.

Sometimes such moral indignation is disproportionate and seems projected or at least self protective.

Mr Carney has threatened to raise interest rates despite the fact that British households are 'heavily indebted' after years of falling wages and riding prices

The Bank of England chief has warned that David Cameron’s cost of living crisis is threatening the UK economy.

Mark Carney said yesterday that millions of British households are “heavily indebted” due to years of falling wages and rising prices.

“They haven’t seen real wages increase,” warned the Governor.

And the situation could get even tougher for homeowners as Mr Carney said interest rates would go up.

He said: “We have to have confidence that prospective real wages are going to be growing sustainably.”

But he insisted that the Bank would not wait for that to happen before raising interest rates.

Mr Carney was clear that interest rates will have to rise from their current historic low of 0.5%.

“As the expansion continues , rates are going to go up,” he said. “People should plan accordingly.”

Prime Minister Cameron has repeatedly trumpeted Britain’s economic recovery over recent weeks.

But official statistics released last week showed average wages are falling while inflation has risen to 1.9%.

Mr Carney said Britain is “more than halfway” to economic recovery but that low wages remain one of the key risks to Britain.

“There are multiple headwinds for the British economy,” he said. “A very weak Europe, the persistent strength of the pound... and British households that are still heavily indebted – not least because they haven’t seen real wages increase.”

A report last month by the Resolution Foundation warned the number of households in “debt peril” could double if interest rates rise. The think tank forecast 1.2million households will be spending more than half their disposable income on debt repayments by 2017.

Senior economist Matthew Whittaker said there was a “real prospect” many families could “collapse” under the weight of their debts if mortgage payments rise significantly.

However, Mr Carney promised that interest rate increases “will be limited and gradual”.
