How can you stop them coming back if they only have British citizenship. In most cases the border controls would not be aware of where they had been since leaving UK. That is why the figures are an estimate. If they were sure then the people would be arrested. You make out it is so simple. Most who have left have seemingly reasonable reasons for leaving UK such as holidays or visiting relatives. They are not going to volunteer information on their real destinations.

Stop fudging Hays, the security people have a very good idea who these people are but without the feet on the ground to stop thier entry, they are coming back at will.

Most of the people heading for ISIS travel to Turkey which is a reasonable holiday destination. They then cross the border to Syria. Once there they disappear. To come back, they just reverse the route. The border between Turkey and Syria is over 800km and very leaky in terms of controls.

This is not a party political problem. Cuts or othwieare not important. It is the lack of evidence of the activities of the people involved.

Turkey requires a visa for starters, so i would not have thought it beyond the capabilities of computer-screening to pick out potential suspects - eg they're unlikely to white, or travelling with children and so and so forth

It is not sufficient evidence to arrest people just because they are visiting Turkey. Don't forget that Turkey issues the visas not the UK. There are other routes via Jordan. Some go to Pakistan and then fly to Turkey or Jordan. You can easily get to Turkey via Romania, Bulgaria or Greece and not need visas.

bet that if you hold a uk passport, you still need a visa to get into turkey from all of those countries
