THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Knowing the Scot's sense of humour (well, it's more of a guess, really), I wouldn't put it past them to all be on a big 'wind up' threatening to vote 'Yes' just to see what happens, stir the shit up a bit, and have a bit of a laugh at us English.

But! What about poor old 'Queenie'? She is going to be so upset!

And if the Scots do vote 'Yes', then Cameron and his buddies and in fact, all the MPs of whatever party, will never, ever, ever be forgiven for letting it happen.

And if they do vote 'Yes' and reject us down here and leave us in the UK completely spoiled and decapitated, I will hate the Scots for ever and I will never speak to one ever again.

So there.

Bloody Alex Salmond! Grrrrrrr!

MPs should get a 9% pay rise next year as planned, the body overseeing their salaries and expenses has said.

Marcial Boo, chief executive of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa), said MPs did an important job and should not be paid a "miserly amount".

Their pay will go up from £67,000 to £74,000 under Ipsa's plan.

The PM, Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband called the hike unacceptable when it was proposed at the end of last year.

Fred1new - 08 Sep 2014 12:53 - 45609 of 81564

Would you do the "proper" job of an MP for £74,000?

(I wouldn't.)

What still needs addressing is their expenses', second houses an staff payments.

That leaves out the "bribery packages" for "lobbying" by companies and buying of "policies" and party policy by disproportionate donations to party fundo

I can't see why the state can't own appropriate property for "MP over-nighters" to use.

If the Mps don't feel the accommodation is suitable, let them pay for it out of their own "salary".

Welcome back TANKER.

Your thoughts on ISIS would be appreciated.

Should we bomb them????

For the first time, a majority of the British public backs RAF air strikes against IS

What is the point of airstrikes without the follow up?

goldfinger - 08 Sep 2014 14:27 - 45613 of 81564

Drones.

MaxK - 08 Sep 2014 14:46 - 45614 of 81564

Yep, the house of commons if full of em.

Haystack - 08 Sep 2014 14:47 - 45615 of 81564

The big mistake regarding Scotland was letting them have a referendum in the first place. Better to reply with a big fat NO!.

Shortie - 08 Sep 2014 15:01 - 45616 of 81564

Cameron just wants the best legacy as 'the prime minister who lost Scotland, I think it beats Gordon Browns Gold selling lows, 'the brown bottom' and even Tony (weapons of mass destruction) Blairs 'War Criminal' legacies....

Haystack - 08 Sep 2014 15:04 - 45617 of 81564

It is difficult to decide on which side to support in the referendum. You have to balance wishing for a NO just to see the smug look wiped off the YES camp and see them descend into abject misery against the pleasure of being rid of 'dour' Scots that have little in common with us or any country. It's a tough choice. Alex Salmond is top of my list of people in need of a good slap.

Haystack - 08 Sep 2014 15:14 - 45618 of 81564

If Scotland goes then we should have a day of celebration with street parties.

doodlebug4 - 08 Sep 2014 15:16 - 45619 of 81564

Steady on Haystack, don't paint all Scots with the same brush. I could say the English are a bunch of arrogant know it alls! :-)

Haystack - 08 Sep 2014 15:24 - 45621 of 81564

But it doesn't matter if they go. They will just be a bunch of johnny foreigners. We will need to keep them out in the same way as other 'immigrants'. There will be no essential difference between Scots and Bulgarians, Romanians or Lybians. Are we going to get Scottish political asylum seekers? It must mean passports at the very least for travel from Scotland and for Scots living here. They should need visas and work permits and be lumped in with the other immigrants working here illegally.

VICTIM - 08 Sep 2014 15:27 - 45622 of 81564

I may be showing my total ignorance here but, to just have 51% to 49% difference in such a massive decision seems a bit simple . So, say just over half the voters want change with really such unknown consequences is ridiculous.

VICTIM - 08 Sep 2014 16:05 - 45623 of 81564

Do you think it would help if they gave the Royal couples baby a Scottish name.

ExecLine - 08 Sep 2014 16:09 - 45624 of 81564

Remember 'Braveheart'!

We need fully secure armed borders and with triple barbed wire too.

Agree about there should be no difference between Scots and Romanians if they want to vote 'Yes'.

We do not want kilted Scots leaning over our car bonnets sudsing up our car windows and doing our car cleaning! Well, not without proper visas!

Freedom!

MaxK - 08 Sep 2014 16:12 - 45625 of 81564

They wont even be members of the €uro union.

aldwickk - 08 Sep 2014 16:15 - 45626 of 81564

If Wales could vote yes for Independence , we might be able to deport Fred. Trouble is the internet.
