So several months have passed... Based on the success of last Summer's Event at Longcliffe G.C., a few of you have asked me to take over the reigns from PTH and organise another G0LF M0NEY-AM DAY again based in the MIDLANDS. This is fairEST to the majority coming from all over the UK! From initial feedback (reflecting on 2005 36-Hole hot mid-Summer's day!), the popular view for a 2006 Event has been agreed, as follows: -

* Tea/Coffee on arrival.
* 9 Holes (4BBB 3/4 Stab.) Comp.
* Sandwiches/Lunch.
** 18 Holes (MAIN INDIVIDUAL (FULL HANDICAP) STABLEFORD EVENT) with M-AM and Golfing Prizes for Winners, incl. "Nearest-to-the-Pin" on the 9th. Hole and "The-Longest-Drive" on the 18th. Hole.
* 3-Course Evening Dinner (full waitress service), incl. coffee & mints + Prize Presentation/Mic. Table.

(** ADDITIONAL PRIZES from our generous SPONSORS include: - 3 months worth of Shares Magazine sent to the homes of EACH COMPETITOR every week. The Overall Winner will get The Money-AM Annual Golf Challenge Cup to keep for good plus 1 year's worth of Money-AM Level 2 service worth 357.50 + Vat. Ian I'm with you on that, maybe a 27 hole pitch 'a' putt for all us non-golfers would be an idea. If not then I suppose I could have a go at the real thing except a handicap of 100 and a football would be more appropriate for me!!

Fliper, LOL (the comp. was a KP Stab., btw). New exact: 9.3 after the CSS moved down by 1 stroke. Anyway when are you up for a re-match? The gap is closing + keen for revenge! :o)

New to MAM, but as a very keen golfer, couldn't but help notice this thread. Would be quite interested in the event next year, but very early to judge availability.

Just in case anyone missed The U.S. Open this evening...

Colin Montgomery has clawed his way back into contention in R4 of the U.S. Open, at Winged Foot. He birdies 17 with a monumental tramliner putt to tie for the lead on +4 with Phil Mickleson (who is having all the fortunate breaks). The British commentator retorts: "Maybe Monty's time has finally arrived?...!".

Playing behind, the Ozzie, Geoff Ogilvy, chips in to save par on 17 to stay at +5.

From A1 position: middle of the 18th. fairway, Monty has 172 yards left to the green and changes from 6-iron to a 7-iron ("because of adrenalin..."). He hits it heavy and poorly leaving an impossible chip... ends up with a long downhiller for par and putts 10 foot beyond only to miss his bogey putt back, to finish on +6.

Then Ogilvy's approach shot on 18 takes a bad bounce leaving him with a very difficult "up & down" which he manages by wedging to 5 feet and holing out to finish on +5.

So Mickleson "only needs a par to win...". His drive slices bigtime and hits a spectator tent rebounding back into play on the walkway (another fortuitous break, we think?). He needs to shape an iron in but hits a tree and advances < 15 yards. His 3rd. stroke over-compensates and plugs into the greenside bunker. The best "short game" player on The Planet [after me, of course!] goes through the green into heavy rough. He needs to chip-in to force a play-off but goes 8 foot beyond (holing out for a double-bogey 6) and ends up joint 2nd. with Monty, on +6.

They can all say whatever they like, in retrospect, but I truly believe one word best describes what I saw today: -

"Pressure!".

Not really, Fliper, coz after all we BOTH "went for it" only to splash into the agua, didn't we? The Shark's fighting par on the final hole hardly correlates to "pressure" and would've tied us - had it not been for your magnificent closing birdie, of course! :o(

Slight difference (above) + that was another problem - sharks are genetically attracted to water - their natural habitat, after all !! :o)

Hi Guys

I have not forgotten you all. Club is booked provisionally for June 4th but do not have to firm up till next year. Numbers are quite flexible, the more the merrier, and I can negotiate a better discount. The club can cater for up to a 100 for the evening meal. Anyone wanting to come along, just for the dinner, and to meet up with friends, will be very welcome. I am on hols for 2 weeks, please keep any queries till I come back.

Well done, Bob: knew you were a man of action. Put me down for next year if I am still on this mortal coil. Excellent piccies, MG: enjoyed the choccie sweet in particular which is somewhat obvious. Shark should still get the major credits even if he misjudged the adrenelin, just like Colin - after all, all the best players visited the aqua. Accept him as series joint leader even though the results should be weighted in favour of 1st places. Peter gets the rookie of the year award as most improved player (he couldn't deteriorate).

Fliper, The difference here is that Monty has 4 attempts per year at a Major whilst we only have the 1. As such, Colin's had approx. 80 attempts in his career c.t. The Shark's 2. Anyway (with 3 pts. for a winning, 2 for 2nd. pos. and 1pt. for 3rd. pos.) it is still Eric (3+1) and myself (2+2) jointly leading the All-Time M/AM Stats. on 4 pts.!!

Just spent the best part of a week in North Berwick on a golf tour with 15 others. Spectacular Links Courses (Gullane 2 / Kilspindie / Dunbar / The West Course)accompanied by some horrendous winds. Also played Royal Musselborough (Parkland Course for some variation) and Seaton Carew on the way home. All of the courses were extremely challenging and in great condition. Dunbar (Open quailifying venue) and the West Course are an absolute must if you ever venture in that direction. Of interest, whilst we were atempting to play the West Course in gale force winds (for example: 3 wood, 3 wood and 5 wood into a 448 yd Par 4, all off the screws!) an EuroPro event was postponed just down the road, we naturally persevered!! :-) Great fun
