by the way, i certainly think this so-called "mansion tax" is just spiteful and clearly aimed at those in the south where labour hold few if any seats and where well-located properties, through happenstance, are significantly more expensive that almost anywhere else in the country

How much as a percentage?

It will only be levied on the balance over £2m. There will be special arrangements for people who are asset rich but cash poor to avoid taxing poor pensioners living in expensive houses. That means you might as well just increase income tax on the richest people as it is just that.
