THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

The only northeners who will vote UKIP are disillusioned Tories, the UKIP vote is negligible from labour.

We see the South dominated Tory press and know its all fiddled.

cynic - 02 Oct 2014 10:12 - 46648 of 81564

so your pals at the conservative club will vote ukip (right wing tory and more) and are still happy to welcome and drink with the labour voter?

and presumably, the club committee have also decided that you fit in sufficiently with "the rules", always provided you spend plenty behind the bar

i suppose you equate to the token black member of the golf club in atlanta

Fred1new - 02 Oct 2014 10:19 - 46649 of 81564

UKIP appeals in general to ex-tory reactionaries of the likes of Haze who have the courage of their convictions and xenophobic wishing for the days of the Raj.

There will be some defection from labour to UKIP by those who have underlying racial or ethnic phobias, or who wish to "blame" somebody of something for their problems.

The latter have been stirred up by the con party's propaganda and objectifying of different factions of as the cause of the this government's own incompetence.

I think this group is smaller that Farage makes out and probably they are made up usual loud mouths as himself who are found in the bars of the local pubs.

I think as analysis of the CON parties conference continues its holes and failing will become more apparent.

Well done Dave!

Has anyone met gf. Maybe he is black!

Fred1new - 02 Oct 2014 10:24 - 46651 of 81564

Cynic,

"Bar takings"

That is a good tory capitalist principle of sell "anything" to "anybody" as long as there is a profit in it!

About the only principle the present bunch of "toffs" have!

cynic - 02 Oct 2014 10:28 - 46652 of 81564

do charities differentiate?
do try not to be such a silly contentious arsehole the WHOLE time

VICTIM - 02 Oct 2014 10:29 - 46653 of 81564

If the Cons get in again Fred, will you be happy . It just seems that if they don't you will have lots of time on your hands.

Fred1new - 02 Oct 2014 10:35 - 46654 of 81564

From the FT it would seem parts of Cameron’s speech were made up in the Bullingdon club, for and equally intoxicated audience.

And there was a further sting in the tail: the Tories, said the FT, "have staked out a fiscal position that is neither sober nor realistic."
<
/strong>

Another interesting quote:

"Cameron has bet the Conservative farm on a giveaway that would see him arrested and charged with bribery if offered to a public official."

MaxK - 02 Oct 2014 10:37 - 46655 of 81564

Well, if the tories have got a buggered up fiscal policy, what on earth does the FT make of millibeans?

VICTIM - 02 Oct 2014 10:42 - 46656 of 81564

Just a chess club for golden oldies like myself.

I like complicated middle games.

Haystack - 02 Oct 2014 10:47 - 46659 of 81564

It is much easier just squelch Fred. I have been in a Fred free zone for a long time now. It makes this thread pleasant reading.

VICTIM - 02 Oct 2014 10:50 - 46660 of 81564

Fred don't you mean mind games.

Fred1new - 02 Oct 2014 10:57 - 46661 of 81564

Max,

Repetition.

Memory beginning to let you down.

But does point out that the sham references to the NHS will backfire on Cameron, especially if there is a flu epidemic this winter!

Hils

Grrrr! Two party system? Who on earth are the Tories in coalition with at the moment then?

But the Lib Dems are going to get wiped at the next GE. It is they who might only manage a couple of seats.

Why should Farage agree to anything with DC? Oh, you mean they should do a deal? And what would be in it for the Kippers? I suppose they would think they might better win a few more seats. Anfd if they did, it would be UKIP seats + Tory seats = Working Majority.

We have a fantastic Tory MP in our constituency, Andrea Leadsom. Were it not for my utter respect for her, I would be voting UKIP myself. Goverment really does want a massive kick up the arse and voting UKIP is the best message to give the top power monger members of your two political party system. Namely, "We want loads of change!"

hilary - 02 Oct 2014 12:27 - 46666 of 81564

Doc,

If you don't believe that we've got a two-party political system in this country, try Googling Duverger's Law about plurality rule elections for an explanation.

The Lib Dems are there simply to take the blame if something goes wrong. Nothing more. Nothing less. They have no control over anything important, and the Tories even managed to keep the idiot Cable quiet by creating the pointless, un-authoritative position of Business Secretary for him. Notwithstanding, the role of Deputy PM will look good on Nick Clegg's CV in the years to come. Maybe the Tories should even do a swap and take Clegg on board as one of their own, in return for sending some of their old farts like Ken Clark across to the Lib Dems.

And the Lib Dems are not going to get wiped at the next election, simply because of how the first past the post system works. Their support is focused in certain pockets of the country, and, even if their overall nationwide support were to fall to, say, 5%, they would still have sufficient support in their heartlands to guarantee a similar number of Westminster seats to what they've got now.

UKIP, on the other hand, have their 11% to 13% nationwide support spread evenly across the whole country. That even spread isn't sufficient to get them any seats, with the possible exception of some east coast towns where localised support may secure them 35% or 40% of the vote and get them an MP or two.
