THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

leaving aside how any mansion tax is worded, it would probably depend on how the landlord has his rental property set up

if it's his home but he is renting it out while he's abroad (for example), then I guess it would be hit, but if the property is part of a business, then surely a different kettle of fish

or, as the tenant is already responsible for council tax etc, it may well fall into his lap

anyway, no point at all in guessing, but at the end of the day, a property will only fetch as much as the market will allow, be that when selling or renting

GF,

If you have time have a read of this.

Been a little slow this week and only just caught up with week end papers.

Would have C+P it, but it is a little long.

Manuel, needn't bother to. Probably wouldn't be able to concentrate for long enough.

PS,

Good speech by Clegg.

doodlebug4 - 08 Oct 2014 17:35 - 47084 of 81564

In his speech, Mr Clegg revealed the contents of a private conversation he had with Mr Osborne during discussions about the possibility of announcing an increase in the personal allowance in the 2012 Budget.

The Conservatives will be left furious that Mr Clegg has chosen to breach protocol by revealing the contents of a private Cabinet discussion.

HRA as interpreted by the European Courts has now become totally preposterous and assuredly needs a radical overhaul

if the europeans don't like it, then i concur ....... fuck 'em! we'll write our own

Does mansion tax apply to the property or the person owning It?

And how will trust funders be effected??

ExecLine - 08 Oct 2014 18:05 - 47089 of 81564

I note the article in the link above mentions 'disgraced MP, Neil Hamilton' who is now a UKIP member.

Since the big 'MP's Expenses Scandal', Hamilton's 'history' is now almost irrelevant. Having seen him orate on Question Time', I like what he has to say, anyhow.

UKIP are steadily slowly picking up support.

Stand by for another coalition government. But who will be coalitioning with who?

goldfinger - 08 Oct 2014 18:08 - 47090 of 81564

I can see why hes thinking about defecting with that tiny majority.

Bet their were a few counts at the last GE.

Fred1new - 08 Oct 2014 18:11 - 47091 of 81564

Exec.

What about you and me for the coalition.

If the parties fragment anymore we could need only one vote each!

Our NHS may be about to fall into an abyss, but the Government have sent 750 military personnel to Sierra Leone to deal with the Ebola virus. Is that in addition to the £250million this country has already donated?

Haystack - 08 Oct 2014 18:48 - 47093 of 81564

The Libs interpretation of the mansion tax is extra bands of council tax. They would use the current valuations as a base and revalue properties based on property inflation for given areas. Any properties close to the margin that might have crossed into the tax bands would be individually revalued. That would cut down on the work to revalue properties.

Interesting article on 'alien life' biological particles which have been found out in space using sterile slides launched into the Perseid meteor shower in 2013.

These have been found to have biological cosmic dust on them and absolutely no 'earth-like dust' and so it is concluded such biological particles must have come from the carbon and oxygen on comets.

The further conclusion is that this is the most likely scenario for how 'life' might have kicked off on earth.

Scientists say: Likely proof we are descended from extra terrestrials

ExecLine - 08 Oct 2014 19:18 - 47095 of 81564

I hope you enjoy listening to this and I don't think you will have ever heard anything like it before. It's called 'polyphonic overtone singing':

Haystack - 08 Oct 2014 19:40 - 47096 of 81564

The important part of the alien story is the phrase, 'in an interview with the Daily Express'. That really says it all. It is akin to 'in an interview with the Beano'.

aldwickk - 08 Oct 2014 20:13 - 47097 of 81564

Haystack

I would have thought you would like that news , being anti- Bible

goldfinger - 08 Oct 2014 20:17 - 47098 of 81564

Hays what do you think of the upcoming Tory defection to UKIP.

Haystack - 08 Oct 2014 21:11 - 47099 of 81564

I am not anti Bible. I am anti religion (that includes the bible). I am not sure the story constitutes news.

ExecLine - 08 Oct 2014 21:34 - 47100 of 81564

At times like this, I get to be anti-Haystack.

The 'Daily Express bit' is utterly and totally irrelevant and the Express is only mentioned by the Independent's journalist out of sheer politenes, IMHO.

There are a number of factual pieces of evidence in the piece, which 95% point to the fact that the particles under discussion did not and could not have ascended from the Earth.

Q. What has Oxygen and what has Carbon?

A. A comet.

Etc., etc. Hence the 95% certainty, that the biological particles came from outer space.

Haystack - 08 Oct 2014 21:48 - 47101 of 81564

The article doesn't warrant the headline 'Alien life found above Derbyshire proves we're descended from extraterrestrials' say scientists. It has all the hallmarks of a trumped Daily Express story.
