A new non-java Stockwatch is ready to try out - Technical Beta Test

IanT(MoneyAM) - 29 Jan 2014 07:42

As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

The new version can be found on the following link:

http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php

NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread

Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

Ian just this moment returned and I was failing with both google ands firefox, now
they are both working. Perhaps the secret is, go to golf club for sandwich and then mow the lawn.

Have you tried a restart of your machine moneylender, it may settle things.,.

Moneylender - 30 Apr 2014 15:01 - 475 of 734

Was doing that as you posted Balerboy, all seems fine now thanks

Thanks Ian as well

Does not work on my 8.1 windows laptop using ie11 or firefox.
I only get the headings and annoying adverts.
I'm I missing a plugin or add-on?
Works on an older XP machine

Much better than java format. When's this going to be made the default?!

benkhan - 05 May 2014 10:11 - 478 of 734

Streaming in this beta version updates every 15 seconds, unlike the Java version which was continuous live streaming.
There are also no figures in the mid change and % change columns,

Ian
I have six watch lists all formatted the same but on the your new non java program I can only bring up lists one and two. On the previous version of java it brings up the headers for each watch list and the epics but no other detail.

My system is Windows 7 and recently updated version of java.

This is very frustrating and timewasting. I would rather have option to use old system.

gwr
It works fine for me, but Java Script always wants to start first.

Balerboy - 06 May 2014 17:07 - 481 of 734

click quicker.......lol

James1314 - 08 May 2014 12:39 - 482 of 734

Much more stable than Java, both on PC and Mac.

bulleid - 13 May 2014 10:30 - 483 of 734

This is a great improvement on the temperamental Java version.
Well done.

Hello, the change column is still wrong on shares gone ex div, eg SBRY today you are showing SBRY as flat when it is down 13p !

Mo06 - 14 May 2014 08:06 - 485 of 734

... yet on the TRADES page SBRY is shown as - 11.95.

This is not consistent, please change this ASAP.

Mo06 - 14 May 2014 08:12 - 486 of 734

Also showing the correct change on SBRY on the FTSE 100 heatmap.

midknight - 14 May 2014 10:01 - 487 of 734

Also GSK price = minus from yesterday on the Trades page is correct
but on the Stockwatch pages it is not.

Mo06 - 14 May 2014 11:13 - 488 of 734

Midknight - agreed it's pretty inconsistent & confusing at 0801...

SueSilver - 20 May 2014 11:56 - 489 of 734

For me, this is much better since it's larger. I found the Java version was too small for someone visually impaired. Thank you!

goldfinger - 20 May 2014 19:06 - 490 of 734

Yep I like the new format, bigger and clearer. Thankyou money am.

Balerboy - 20 May 2014 22:43 - 491 of 734

A big plus for me, when out and about I use a "3" internet dongle. I could never load the java stockwatch, but now it loads in a flash.... no more frustration...... peace and contemplation at last.,.
