How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

I heard of one with goldman sachs as the adviser but have forgotten the name, it wasn't 888.com or partypoker

Made a bit of a school boy error tonight - have backed 3 sides with a view to trading out - none of the 3 games went in play and idiot here forgot to check lol.

At least 2 of them are in front!

Fundamentalist - 20 Sep 2005 20:13 - 4749 of 10502

All 3 are in front inside 30 minutes and i cant trade out but keep the fingers crossed!!!

Anyone trading the totenham game - theyre struggling a touch and lucky not to have given away a penalty

bakko - 20 Sep 2005 20:13 - 4750 of 10502

Steve,

Almost did it myself on West Ham. At 1.9s I thought they were excellent value until I checked whether it was in play.

Wish I'd left a small wager on them being 1-0 up.

Hope it ends up OK for you!

Fundamentalist - 20 Sep 2005 20:20 - 4751 of 10502

Bakko

West Ham are one of the 3 lol - along with Portsmouth and Birmingham. 2 out of 3 will be a small profit, 1 out of 3 only a small loss so not too bad - if all 3 fail ill be suicidal, if all 3 win ill be buying when we go out!

Have to be honest i thought a lot of the odds were strange tonight - i know sides arent necessarily taking this comp seriously and putting out their best sides but some of the prem sides looked way overpriced to me - just a shame i cant trade out, bank the profit and put my feet up (except for a few small bets on the greyhounds lol)

Scripophilist - 20 Sep 2005 20:56 - 4752 of 10502

Just nipped in on the Grimsby vs Spurs match for some action. Just trading the book at the moment.

bakko - 20 Sep 2005 21:23 - 4753 of 10502

Just gone green on Spurs game.

Scripophilist - 20 Sep 2005 21:25 - 4754 of 10502

I can't figure out what to make of the footy this evening. So made a few quid and will listen to the remainder.

Fundamentalist - 20 Sep 2005 21:31 - 4755 of 10502

Getting twitchy for me - Bham 2-0 up, West Ham have gone from 3-0 up to 3-2 and Portsmouth twice in the lead are 2-2 and have missed a penalty now.

What a mad game for Villa - 3-1 down now 7-3 up!!!

Edit West Ham now 4-2 up so should be safe in 2 of the games
