Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Question.....
Is diabetes a disability?
Discussion in 'Diabetes Discussions' started by bluboy, Aug 8, 2008.

Can anyone tell me if diabetes is classed as a disability under currant government guidelines? and if so, why are we not told this so that we can claim benefits.
Answer.....
I beleive that diabetes is included under the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act in that employers can't exclude someone from a job just because they have diabetes. I think the only acception to this is the armed forces although don't quote me. I am fairly sure your employer is acting illegally in stopping you working nights just because of your diabetes and if he/she won't listen to your reasoned argument then it may be worth talking to your union rep if you have one or taking legal advice.
Although diabetes comes under the Disability Discrimination Act, I don't believe it automatically qualifies you for benefits (and believe this is the same for any registed disabled person) unless you are physically having difficulty caring for yourself or unable to work. I think there are lots of good resources on this site and on the http://www.diabetes.org.uk where you can get more advice or there's always the Citizens Advice Bureau. Good luck with your employer

Talking of Cleggy.
He was on the wireless this morning (LBC)
Asked about the (convicted rapist) footballer playing for Sheffield...and, would he shake his hand?
Ducking and diving, wouldn't commit one way or the other.
What a wanker!

disabled in the workplace
obviously it depends on the level of disability and how that might or might not affect the ability to do a certain job
however, if the job can be done sufficiently well by a disabled person, why on earth should they not be paid (at least) minimum wage?

There is a principle that once people have served their punishment then they should be treated the same as anyone else. Not sure I feel that way about paedophiles though.

diabetes
generally speaking, diabetes can be well enough controlled, though it presupposes that the patient also looks after himself
my late biz partner patently did not and therefore died well before his time
however, another chap of my acquaintance is terrifyingly fit and my dentists children, who also suffer, also manage to keep this pernicious disease well under control

A gang of Romanian beggars sleeping rough on one of London's most exclusive streets today demanded: 'We're EU citizens, give us houses'.
The 40-strong group sleeping in a subway under Park Lane have been accused of turning it into a 'slum' having lived in various camps near Marble Arch for 18 months.
Local businesses believe they have driven away customers because of the mess and members of the group urinating in the street and fighting with rivals.
Today the group said they are willing to pack up their cardboard boxes if Westminster Council found them homes.

Westminster Council says the problem of these Park Lane camps has cost the taxpayer £500,000 a year.
They have campaigned to evict the rough sleepers — even buying them tickets to fly home — but some just come back.
