THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

PAY EVERYONE THE SAME MINIMUM WAGE, SAY VOTERS
by William Jordan in Front Page and Politics
Fri October 17, 2014 10:05 a.m. BST You Gov

Most people reject the idea that different levels of minimum wage should be paid to different groups, including people with and without disabilities

Welfare minister Lord Freud has stirred cross-party outrage with comments suggesting that people with disabilities may not be “worth” the full minimum wage. On Wednesday the Conservative peer apologised, calling the remarks “foolish and stupid”.

YouGov’s latest polling for the Times Red Box delves into the question of whether the same minimum wage ought to apply to different groups, and finds few voters prepared to pay any of them at different levels.

In the case of people with disabilities, four in five (79%) reject the idea of setting a different minimum wage to people without them, while only 12% support it. Similarly, 80% are against and 12% in favour of paying people above and below the retirement age differently, and voters are almost uniformly opposed to varying the minimum wage according to gender (91-3%).

There is little variation in the opinions of Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat or UKIP voters on these three groups.

Around three in ten do think it is appropriate to pay people above and below the age of 21 or people living in areas with higher and lower living costs at different levels, but twice as many think it shouldn’t be done even for these groups.

Currently the minimum wage is £6.50 per hour.

Lord Freud’s comments were made at a fringe meeting at the Conservative party conference. He had been addressing the question posed by a Conservative councillor of how to deal with cases of people with disabilities who want to work, but “can’t find people who are willing to pay [them] the minimum wage.”

TANKER - 17 Oct 2014 16:21 - 47918 of 81564

if they all got the living wage most people would lose out lose of benefits and you can not claim for any thing no help with bills c/t new boiler nothing

that is why the con are bringing in the new pension .

It used to be that when you were young you worked for less than an experienced older person, this helped ensure that young people could compete in the market as they cost the employer less... With the minimum wage this youth advantage has been removed.. If your employing at the minimum wage and your choice is a 21 year old with no experience or a 31 year old with 10 years experience and good references who would you choose....?? Now is it any surprise that we have a generation of youths out of work coinciding with when the minimum wage was bought in.

goldfinger - 17 Oct 2014 16:42 - 47920 of 81564

I dont employ people under those circumstances Shortie. I have over 300 employees working for me.

I have friends in business who dont either.

We run a age increment salary policy a bit like the Civil Service and Local Government. 3 increments not 5 0r 6 like above.

If what you state is happening its a total disgrace.

Cyners you wouldnt pay the same for a 21 year old as you would an experienced man would you?

Fred1new - 17 Oct 2014 16:45 - 47921 of 81564

When I was a boy(16) in my holidays I use to do labouring jobs for "pocket money".

What annoyed me initially, as I was a big strong lad and "shifting" more than some around me that I was paid at lower rate (boy's rate) and complain to my father about it.

He agreed, but said it was bit unfair, but added that "if you got to the age of 50-60-65 and were worked out (common when I was a boy) would you like to take home less pay each week and show your pay slip to your wife". (And finished with the word "dignity".)

That is what Fraud seemed to have missed in his ill chosen words. (Many in more private conversation would chose "similar" words, but it is the lack awareness and sensitivity to possible feelings of others when supposed to be dealing with their problems is his real and this government's problem.)

goldfinger - 17 Oct 2014 16:50 - 47922 of 81564

Thats an excelent reply Fred.

Fraud used the word WORTH as if people where just commodities.

TANKER - 17 Oct 2014 16:58 - 47923 of 81564

gf keep up the good work will post from Portugal or were ever I end up

Pay black people £2 per hour as that’s all they’re worth? Now you get why Freud has to be sacked – SPeye Joe 16/10/2014

130927freudboilyourhead.jpg?resize=529%2The scurrilous and offensive remarks of Lord Freud over people with disabilities should have seen him sacked. Last night on BBC Question Time he was defended to the hilt in a disgraceful example of people not getting what he said, writes Joe Halewood in his SPeye Joe blog.

The simplest way to GET what he said is to subititute “black” for “disabled” and THEN you get it so below I have simple cut and pasted my blog from Wednesday with that change

It reads:

Lord Freud, said by many to be the architect of the bedroom tax and some wider welfare reform policies has been recorded saying black people are NOT WORTH THE MINIMUM WAGE of £6.50 per hour and should be paid £2 PER HOUR FOR THE WORK THEY DO.

Read the rest on SPeye Joe.

The view of this blog is that last night’s Question Time was an hour-long parade of senility and stupidity. You can work out for yourself who among the guests, chairman and audience displayed the symptoms of either condition.

goldfinger - 17 Oct 2014 17:02 - 47925 of 81564

TANKER yes you look after yourself and your good lady partner. Make sure to wash your hands in the bogs and try to eat at home rather than a cafe/Restaurant.

Have a good time old bud.

ps, dont fly with Flybe, cheap budget Fred Carno type airplanes with Trolly Dollys who look like they are Lady Sloss on a bad day.

doodlebug4 - 17 Oct 2014 17:27 - 47926 of 81564

Tanker, you will be perfectly fine with FLYBE I have flown with them and they are excellent - just remember to wash your hands after using the toilet as I know you are concerned about catching Ebola. However I can put your mind at rest about Ebola as our PM, "call me Dave" is bestride the world stage telling everyone and his dog that this country is leading the world in helping to contain this virus - which I'm really pleased about as we, the taxpayers, seem to be throwing £120million plus everything except the kitchen sink at it. And I say this as someone who will no doubt vote Conservative at the next GE.

I'm glad gf has me on filter as he presumably cannot read this, otherwise we would get another 20 posts in response. In fact I've lost track of all the posters gf has, or hasn't got on filter. Haystack I think is on filter, cynic was on filter but he seems to be off filter, Chris is deffo on filter, Hilary has never been on filter - even if she refers to him as "fishfinger" - probably because she is obviously a woman with brains which gf no doubt finds a real turn-on. Have I missed out anyone else?

MaxK - 17 Oct 2014 17:35 - 47927 of 81564

I want to be on filter too, I'm always being left out .. sob.

Cyners you wouldnt pay the same for a 21 year old as you would an experienced man would you?

without getting unusually silly .......
surely a job is worth what it is and thus the age or sex of the successful applicant is irrelevant

==============

doodlebug4 - 17 Oct 2014 17:39 - 47929 of 81564

MaxK - I'm really sorry (throwing you some Kleenex), but you really need to try harder!
