Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Haystack, if you can be bothered since you have gf on filter and I'm not interested in what he says - and this is a serious question btw - please explain to me why Cameron is pumping so much money into Sierra Leone? I really cannot figure out if it's an attempt to divert attention from the problems at home, or if he just likes being perceived as a big player on the world stage. As a Conservative supporter I must admit I'm at a bit of a loss with this.

The Ebola crisis is very serious. The UN said three days ago that we have 60 days to get it under control, based on the current rate of spread. The UN said yesterday that it was surprised by the lack of international effort being deployed in West Africa. The World Heath Organisation said yesterday that it had handled the situation badly and made serious mistakes. The health services in the Ebola areas are almost non existent and the spread of the disease is pretty much guaranteed. There has to be major work now to improve the infrastructure.

Well im suprised by that answer from Hays given his newly acquired Friend Doodlebug says the whole Ebola incident is well over cooked and is just scaremongering.
Mind having said that his neck is on the line having all his equity capital in the airline Flybe.

The estimate is about 9,000 cases of Ebola so far but there is probably major under reporting. The rate of increase is so great that by end of next month we could see 5,000 to 10,000 new cases a week. You can see where those figures are going. If it is not stopped then the disease could become endemic in West Africa. The Ebola situation is part of the reason for the nervousness in the markets. Ebola will be here soon.
I am all for spending even more to fight Ebola

OK Haystack, the next question is why does this country always have to be the first in line when it comes to dishing out money in foreign aid and especially when our NHS is badly in need of funding? It surely cannot be great PR for the Conservatives, apart from anything else.

The Ebola situation is another media hyped story and no need for the general public to start panicking. If all the media nonsense spouted about Aids had turned out to be true then we would all be dead by now!
The virus doesn’t live for long outside the body. Ultraviolet rays from sunlight destroy it, as does heat. Bleach kills it and plain soap and water can wash it away. Warm body fluids such as blood, vomit and feces carry the virus. And it has to get into the body to infect you — it doesn’t soak in through the skin, for instance. It must get in through the nose, mouth, eyes, through a cut or by a needle stick.

What a truly selfish and materialistic post. (edit ....dont we know it PJ 1)
So ppl are dying from it and its just hyped media? Maybe our soldiers getting killed in far off lands is just hyped media? About the same numbers currently.
Aids. As far as I am aware not one person in the homosexual society of London escaped the crisis without at least knowing someone who died from it. Oh sorry, it was hyped media wasn't it?

PJ1, since bookbroker has no need to answer. You were also quite insulting to me some time ago when I said that the Ebola crisis was a media-hyped story. You seem to be very good at dishing out the insults but lack the basic facts about the virus. I say again this is a media hyped story. If people had been stopped from travelling from the countries which had been infected by the virus then we wouldn't still be listening to all this scaremongering. The people who have been diagnosed with Ebola have been in direct contact with other carriers of the virus.
================================================================ PJ 1....I have never been insulting, just questioned your outlook. You never replied.
Infected people will be stopped from travelling, but how do you know they are infected? Until it shows and is confirmed. Thats exactly the point.
so you now want all travel banned form 4 countries where the virus has been confrmed?
''If people had been stopped from travelling from the countries which had been infected by the virus then we wouldn't still be listening to all this scaremongering.''
I disagree, it is not media hyped. Its where we are. Would you prefer the media had not reported on it?

You need to stop interaction between infected people...then it will die out.

Its quite simple Doodlebug4 couldnt give a dam about these poor people from dying from this terrible disease all he wants to do is PROTECT HIS INVESTMENT IN FLYBE

You can spend more on Ebola effectively by doing more of what we are doing. That is setting up modern treatment centres and providing medical staff and medicine. The difficult side of Ebola is tracing contacts. That is fairly easy in a western environment. In a relatively primitive area it is extremely difficult. Plus there is the suspicion and stigma surrounding the disease. There have been cases of people breaking into the treatment complexes to 'free' people who have been taken there.

I cannot understand why it wouldn't have been easier and more cost effective to stop people travelling from the infected countries to other parts of the world until the virus was under control. Instead of which we now have a ludicrous situation whereby nurses and health care workers , who have been working in these countries and have been in direct contact with the virus, seem to be free to travel anywhere they wish.

It is difficult to stop them travelling. The borders of the countries are not secure. You can't isolate several complete countries.
