Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

hat tip to leeds on afn for this:
Why can’t the UK government get its deficit down? This issue has been exercising commentators recently, in the light of the latest assessment from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) that George Osborne will once again miss his target for the deficit in the 2014-15 financial year.
Of course, the size of the deficit has fallen – from the £157bn bequeathed by Labour in 2009-10, to £108bn in 2013-14. But it hasn’t fallen by as much as the OBR consistently predicted, or as much as the chancellor would like it to. This limits the ability of government to deliver tax cuts in advance of the general election next year.
A common, and plausible, reason is that there has been a shift in how the economy operates. Output has recovered strongly, but earnings have not. The bargaining power of employers is stronger, many members of the workforce have a more flexible attitude to how much they work, so take-home pay has failed to keep up with inflation. As a result, the amount of tax flowing into the government’s coffers is not as much as would be expected on the basis of evidence from previous economic recoveries.
But the fundamental reason for our stubborn deficit is that remuneration in the public sector remains too high. The recent strikes by Unite and other unions show that many people on the conventional Left seem to believe that the purpose of public expenditure is to boost the private consumption of those employed in the public sector.

The minutes of the recent MPC committee of the BoE say, "that was insufficient evidence of inflationary pressures to raise interest rates". MPC members voted 7-2 to keep interest rates at 0.5%.
Keeping pay rates low is a large part of the secret to keeping inflation low at present.

Bunkum. Inflation under RPI is storming away as it includes Housing costs.
The governments prefered measure CPI is artificialy low because of the quality of jobs in the UK Economy ie, nothing more than labourers, modern slaves.
Thats why the government cant cut the deficit because the tax take(inflow) is so low and at the same time benefits(outflow) are increasing eg, housing benefit and tax credits.
You dont half talk some pony Hays.

GF,
Just a thought.
Cameron boasting of 2 million apprenticeships and promising another million.
Exactly what are these apprenticeships, what are they in?
What are the apprenticed paid?
What are the chances of employment after the apprenticeship jobs?
Is it another form of cheap labour, which in 50-80s it was considered by some employers to be. Hence the loss of interest by employers?
Isn't this another attempt by Cameron and cronies to distort unemployment figures?
Beginning to think this government would be to corrupt for a banana republic?
By how many of the ex Bullingdon club failures are on apprenticeship schemes?

Fred, your arguments might perhaps carry a bit more weight if you actually voted Labour. You can talk the talk, but you can't be bothered to walk the walk to your local polling station - or you could even get a postal vote.

All Cameron's done on the employment front is move people from one sector to another so it appears that he's saved money in one sector (public) and got people back to work in the other (private)....

DB4,
Thank you for thinking about my needs.
What I want is riddance of the Cameron Osborne clique, without the emplacement and what I consider another insular, racist disaster which UKIP and Farage represent to me.
The other political parties appear moderate and well intentioned in comparison.
I don't really hav)e prevalence for any one or other, but consider that if Labour win they may nailed the lid down on the coffin of the type of conservatism which has polluted politics since the Maggie Thatcher period.
(Feel a little sorry for Major being swept along by his right wing.

Do you mean the ---- is beginning to stick, because he has skidded away from any consistent policies.

Now whats Dave gonna do?
Jean-Claude Juncker issues migrant threat to Cameron
The new President of the European Commission is 'not willing to compromise' on the issue of the freedom of movement of migrants within the European Union
By Bruno Waterfield, and Peter Dominiczak
1:27PM BST 22 Oct 2014
Jean-Claude Juncker has issued a direct threat to David Cameron and said he is "not willing to compromise" on the issue of the freedom of movement of migrants within the European Union.
The new President of the European Commission accused the Prime Minister of attempting to “destroy” the rules that allow EU immigrants to live and work anywhere in the bloc.
It will come as a major blow to Mr Cameron, who wants to reform Britain’s relationship with Brussels ahead of an in-out referendum he has said he will hold in 2017.
Mr Juncker said: "I am not prepared to change [freedom of movement]. If we are destroying the freedom of movement other freedoms will fall. I am not willing to compromise."
