FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Looks good & hoping for the miners to have another blue day.
However, worth watching the U.S. as Forty-five companies in the benchmark gauge (S & P 500) for U.S. stocks are scheduled to release results this week, including Hewlett- Packard Co. and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

we seem to be approaching a somewhat congested area and rather rapidly. I wonder whether this rally will hold.....

splat - 17 Feb 2010 16:17 - 4864 of 21973

whoops a little dyslexia there! :-) make that 5300

KEAYDIAN - 17 Feb 2010 16:45 - 4865 of 21973

Same here :O)

cynic - 17 Feb 2010 17:13 - 4866 of 21973

rally can't go on indefinitely, but quite a brave call to short i would have thought, not least because Dow does not seem to want to lie down just yet ..... it was slightly soft(er) at london close, but has now rallied again and is currently +35 at 10300

Hewlett-Packard beats the street on earnings and revenue; raises 2010 outlook.
not a good idea to be short of the market
dow finished +40, then +10 after HP results
on the other hand, gold is weaker, but can't win 'em all

KEAYDIAN - 17 Feb 2010 21:49 - 4869 of 21973

But I am short?

cynic - 17 Feb 2010 22:00 - 4870 of 21973

now don't get all girlie and weepy about it!
it's time to you learnt to live with your pathetic and weedy little body

KEAYDIAN - 17 Feb 2010 22:10 - 4871 of 21973

KEAYDIAN - 17 Feb 2010 22:14 - 4872 of 21973

Splat, you still short? That Cynic is making me nervous

Balerboy - 17 Feb 2010 22:16 - 4873 of 21973

Ditto....

cynic - 18 Feb 2010 08:15 - 4874 of 21973

not that i know a damn thing, but markets will almost certainly be volatile for a while yet, so money to be made or lost in both directions ..... timing and nimbleness are perhaps more important than ever

splat - 18 Feb 2010 08:50 - 4875 of 21973

yup, still short :-)
