THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Stunning aerial photo shows hundreds of cars abandoned at Turkey border by refugees fleeing fighting in Kobani, Syria

the above (49023) is a much more accurate summation of the situation in turkey
it's reasonably certain that most on here don't know the geography and juxtaposition of the turkey/syria border, so perhaps someone could post a map to show

anyway, the area of danger is in the very far south and eastern part of turkey and an awful long way from the tourist areas in the west that border the mediterranean

going back to the beginning of 20th century and kemal attaturk and the foundation of turkey as we now know it, the turks aided by the kurds massacred the armenians and there has been much friction in that respect and similar ever since
moving on to the late 70s, the kurds, through PKK and primarily sunni, have been fighting to form a separate and independent state from turkey

as far as i can see, the more recent internal problems have stemmed from the drift from a secular society to one where erdogan wants to (re)impose a much stricter islamic rule

=============

i am not sure that the above simplistic summary is 100% accurate, but no doubt someone much more knowledgeable will correct as necessary

goldfinger - 03 Nov 2014 10:25 - 49026 of 81564

Cyners, a lot of what was on yesterday as been censored and taken off Twitter, but theirs loads of reports coming through saying fighting in Kobani as stepped up a level and its a hell hole.

cynic - 03 Nov 2014 10:28 - 49027 of 81564

sticky - try my summation above; no surprise that the immediate area around kobani and along the border there is seriously dangerous with an awful lot of vicious and barbaric fighting - but when has war ever been gentlemanly?

ExecLine - 03 Nov 2014 10:36 - 49028 of 81564

There is no fighting around the villas, particularly the ones with the pools - not even fighting for sun loungers.

:-)

the drift from a secular society to one where erdogan wants to (re)impose a much stricter islamic rule

ExecLine - 03 Nov 2014 10:54 - 49035 of 81564

Tanker

Are you for real with your opinion about followers of Islam?

I get a bit fed up with reading some of the crap you spout on here and I put it to you, that your islamaphobic view is obnoxious and in trying to strike up hatred against muslims on here, it is also verging on being illegal.

Throughout the entire world, including the UK, there are people who are utter scum bags. And they don't have to be followers of Islam to be scum bags either.

In fact, with some of your attitudes shown on here, you are not too far from being a bit of a scum bag yourself.

Not that it has anything to do with it, but what the hell religion are you?

Chancellor George Osborne has insisted the UK will pursue its "national interest" in Europe despite German warnings about its future in the EU.

Mr Osborne said the British people wanted concerns about EU immigration and access to benefits addressed.

The German government has insisted the right of EU nationals to live and work in other member states is sacrosanct.

Angela Merkel has reportedly said she would rather see the UK leave the EU than allow a quota system for migrants.

-------------------------

Cameron is going to make a speech of immigration policy.

Only problem he has got one yet and Nigel isn't telling him.

Watch out for some more U-bend policies during the following weeks.

The problem for Cameron is the way he tries to stay in power "popular" policies are coming back to bite him.

They fragmented society and know don't know what the voters want!

(Neither do the voters.)
