FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

The problem with the Tories is that they give out that "suit and tie" prat image of themselves....it doesn't appeal to me either...and puts off a lot of "on the fence" voters...

HARRYCAT - 24 Mar 2010 09:19 - 4972 of 21973

Rf, that's a shocker! We have got way past the 'Posh tory toffs' v 'the flat cap labour thickos'. Those people who were firmly entrenched in a Union & therefore voted labour are a fading force. Modern voting youth take much more of an interest now in issues rather than social prejudices.

klal's post 4964 says it all, if this shower get in again they will make sure the clientele referred to in that post grows ever larger and it will be impossible for them(labour) to be voted out in future---------nightmare.

cynic - 25 Mar 2010 21:35 - 4983 of 21973

i bottled out, which to my mind was actually the correct thing to do, as it is all too easy to allow losses to run away and do very nasty damage ..... anyway, well done

There are some extraordinary gains being made on certain Aim stocks.....it's been years since I last saw anything like this....

HARRYCAT - 26 Mar 2010 11:24 - 4987 of 21973

A cautionary note issued for monday's FTSE, as Cable & Wireless demerger set to affect the index:
"Indices At expected trading prices, we would expect CWW to just scrape into
the FTSE100 (decision Friday evening) and MSCI mid-cap indices but for CWC to
drop out. We estimate CWC selling pressure from index trackers equates to c.25m
shares from FTSE100 and c.105m from MSCI (1%, 4% shares outstanding)."

cynic - 26 Mar 2010 14:55 - 4989 of 21973

if i'd held on, the pain would now be much worse ..... it's all part of the discipline i try to instil in myself, relating to banking good profits and dumping bad holdings .... it certainly helps that i regularly preach as much here

HARRYCAT - 26 Mar 2010 17:07 - 4990 of 21973

Vin de table then tonight Cynic, as opposed to the usual Chateau bottled?
