My Tips For The Day

guysands - 19 Aug 2003 00:51

I've been reading some of these postings with much interest and have decided for my free 'demo week' to post my daily share buying tips (for what they're worth!).
My simple share dealing strategy is to buy shares in a company just before it is due to make a interim statement. I research the company and try and guess if the results will be good or better than expected. If I am lucky then on the day of the announcement I will get a good uplift (like riding a thermal in a glider!). If I am very confident I will keep that share for a few days and try and ride the 'thermal' even higher! When I think the excitement has died down - usually one or two days after the announement - then I might consider selling. Or keeping for the medium term (choices, choices!!).

In readiness for tommorrow I have 5000 riding on Celltech which hopefully will post some good/better than expected results - fingers crossed!!
Next time I will give a bit more notice so that if anyone wants to follow my tip they can do.
I love to hear from anyone who is operating a similiar system or who also has money invested in Celltech so that we can celebrate or commiserate tommorrow!!

Does anyone hold any THUS shares? I have 5k to invest any ideas? Of course I will do my own research. I also have 10k tied up in LLoydstsb, all was going well then I went away for two weeks. Stupid, I know I should have sold up and taken small profit before I left, and now I'm down 1k waiting for the price to rise after sale of NZ. Is this wishful thinking?

a strategy i have used successfully in the past is to buy a blue chip the day before it goes ex-div. the share will invariably drop to account for the divi but generally recovers within a few days. then sell at maybe break even , a small loss or even a gain, then wait for the divi cheque.

I buy some weeks before the results are announced having noticed that a lot of other people have been buying suggesting that the results will be good. If I've made some profit I sell before the results are out and find another company. Some times I miss a further rise, others the price drops because the market was expecting the figures. Great fun isn't it!
