Euro Vote on Execution only - worried?

stockbunny - 02 Sep 2003 15:34

How worried should we be about this vote in Europe today about more regs' concerning execution only dealing? Its bothering me....the Stockbunny

here it is

http://www2.europarl.eu.int/omk/sipade2?PUBREF=-//EP//TEXT+PRESS+NR-20030903-1+0+DOC+XML+V0//EN&L=EN&LEVEL=2&NAV=X&LSTDOC=N#SECTION1

However, the committee is against some proposed rules that could increase the cost of buying and selling shares. As regards "conduct of business" obligations, it has called for suitability tests (Art. 18) to apply only to deals where advice is provided. "Execution only" services (i.e. executing transactions without providing advice), which are very popular among many investors, should not be burdened by extra requirements that would lead to higher charges, say MEPs. At the same time, it should be made clear to the investor that no advice is being given.

Thank Da Bear for your information, this just hasn't been covered in the press at all post-vote. So hopefully our cheap dealing is here to stay!
