Is there anybody who could shed a light on SIP. This is a well establish company trading at peanuts. Results supposed to be out in June but have been delayed till unspecified period. If it comes out from current restructuring than returns could be huge.

Greetings to all Sip holders............
well if there are any left.
I've been carrying this stock since Xmas last.
It has cost me a pretty penny .... pardon the pun.
I bit the bullet today... I sold out.
At least I don't have to worry about it any more.
All the best to those still hanging on.

So, what happens now? Does this mean Scipher's shares no longer have any value and all investments in Scipher are now worthless?

Not necessarily. You can't buy or sell Scipher shares but if the administrators manage to flog off subsidary components of the company with enough dosh left to satisfy the major creditors then there may be some leftover for us poor lowly investors.

I don't think they are going into administration---yet!! They have sold 2 of their remaining asset companies leaving only one to concentrate on. This after selling every other asset they had in order to survive. They delayed their results because of these sales and Aim rules state the share has to be suspended if the results are not brought out by a set time.
There's not much of the company left but I hope it lives to continue the battle!

Dotcom dream ends for Thorn EMI research venture
Heather Tomlinson
Wednesday September 29, 2004
The Guardian
Scipher, the research company spun out of Thorn EMI and floated in 2000 with a valuation of 330m, has called in the receivers, ending a history that goes back 70 years.
As part of EMI it employed the late Sir Godfrey Hounsfield, the British inventor of the CAT scanner, a detailed form of X-ray that revolutionised medicine. He won the Nobel prize for his work in 1979.
Scipher was the research and development arm of Thorn EMI and it raised 30m when it was sold in 2000, but the money was spent in just over 18 months. It has never made a profit. All but 10 of the old research staff have been laid off in recent years.
The firm had added to the old research activities a "business incubator", popular in the dotcom boom of the late 1990s. "It was a business model that didn't work," said Dr Rudy Burger, the chief executive brought in late last year. "As a consequence of the frothy dotcom era, lots of business models were funded that probably should not have been."
Shares in the firm were suspended last week when it said it would not be able to publish its full-year accounts. They stopped trading at just over 1p, compared with a price of about 7 when it floated. Its valuation last week was just 3m, making it one of the numerous dotcom bubble ventures that have lost more than 99% of their value. It is unlikely that existing shareholders will get any of their money back.

SCIPHER PLC
APPOINTMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE RECEIVERS
On 21st September 2004 Scipher PLC announced that it had sold its subsidiary,
CRL Opto LTD, and was in exclusive negotiations with a third party for the sale
of another subsidiary, TSSI LTD. The Board took the view that Scipher's
interests, as well as those of CRL Opto LTD and TSSI LTD, were best served by
the sale of these two subsidiaries since the cash proceeds of these sales would
significantly reduce the parent company's indebtedness. However, since the
announcement Scipher has experienced considerable creditor pressure and as a
result the Board has concluded that Scipher is not in a position to continue
trading.
After considering all the options available to it (including administration,
which is inappropriate for tax reasons) the Board is of the view that the
appointment of administrative receivers is the most appropriate course of
action for Scipher to take and, following an invitation from Scipher plc,
administrative receivers from Baker Tilly have been appointed over the Company.
The directors will work closely with the receivers to explore the possibility
of returning the Company to a more secure footing. To this end discussions are
already in progress which could lead to the sale of another subsidiary,
Wavelength Solutions LTD and the process for the sale of TSSI continues.
Scipher's subsidiary companies continue to trade outside of the insolvency
process of their parent.

I only have 100,000 shares but looking at announce, emts feel small shareholders haver been seriously misled over the past few months due to appartantly good statements from the management. Does anyone believe that all is really lost on this company? Is there a way back from current discussions which must be costing more money for consultation fees etc, that the money men in really dark suits get.

The directors bought a lot of shares about 6 months ago (at around 5 or 6p). All this is bit of a shock...
What does following mean...
'The directors will work closely with the receivers to explore the possibility
of returning the Company to a more secure footing.'

moneyplus - my understanding is that the subsidary companies are still trading not the parent company. The parent company has appointed administrative receivers - which is different from being in administration.
lizard - where did you get the news that they were planning to re-list. I checked their website and there is no news of this. In fact the last news posted on their website dates back to July 2004.
I do hope that they do re-list. I had given up on them. May have to root around the bins now to find my certificates. :>)
richard - happy xmas to you. British energy epic is BGY, but they de-listed from all exchanges about a month ago. Argos is part of Grand Universal (GUS).

Following extract is from the last RNS on 28th Sep 2004, which sounds a bit hopeful. Has anyone tried to contact the company or receivers..?
