Second ASOS Challenge (2AC)

EWRobson - 20 Jan 2005 18:13

The first ASOS Challenge was successful in the sense that it taught us a few lessons on investment timing. Only three of 11 shares ended in profit and that included ASOS itself: congratulations to legend for BNH and bosley for SEO. Back to the drawing board for the rest of us (over the year the portfolio would have thrashed any opposition!).

Participants welcome for the second challenge. Primary objective is to find shares that will double in value by 1st July, beating ASC in the process; secondary to be most successful stock-picker in terms of the value of your 20K portfolio. Rules are:

1.Each participant has 20K which can go into 1,2,3 or 4 shares in units of 5K.
2.ASC has 20K and is team yardstick, not in individual portfolios.
3.Duplication between entrants OK with no upper limit for total for one share.
4.Start weekend of 21st Jan. Buy price half way between closing offer and mid.
5.Latest time of entry to be 8 pm on Sunday, 23rd Jan.
6.Challenge to close Friday, 1st July.
7.Entrants can switch up to a total of 10K; av. of Friday close bid and mid.
8.Progress reports to rank shares by performance but also participants (initial only to protect from the ridicule of outsiders!).

Participants welcome. Just post selection here or on ASC thread.

bosley

Interesting choice - expected you to go for SEO again and not surprised at the double-bagger! If DGM is 1/10th as good as ASC it would still be the winner probably. I've posted AZM, CFP, MLS and SEO on the ASC site.

Eric , would like to parrticipate, and the shares I would like to distribute the money between are (10k)BGT,(5k) AEN and(5k) MDW

BGT is a company started by the guys who owned Eidos and started Lara Croft.
AEN..the potential is threefold, just hope it doubles by July:-)
MDW is my baby in the medical sector. Have a money saving, proven PSA test for prostate cancer that can save the NHS millions

EWRobson - 20 Jan 2005 21:34 - 7 of 315

Jules

Good to have you on board. Went into MDW recently but felt from results that it may take longer to come to fruition, whereas MLS is a one-way bet which has already been at 50p before recent problems - my real money is in MDW, not MLS, I have to admit!

EW.... know what you mean....but hope you are wrong:-))

capa - 20 Jan 2005 21:44 - 9 of 315

Eric, I'll start using this thread.

AZM ? yes a tricky one, must say I was tempted but I can switch stocks on this challenge so I've decided to hang fire on Alizyme until just prior to that important announcement is made :-)

Just found the new thread!

Eric,

Here we go....

5k a piece: SPS (mob phone games) DES (oil) PKL (healthcare and foodservice industries) IDS (retail)

Think sps might drift a little until we have any news, but the potential is massive. Des is waiting to poss announce farm in partners for projects in the Falklands. Pkl seems to have captured a niche market and ids is currently pausing for breath until the next push up!!!

Sure i'll be proved wrong on all accounts and my portfolio will plummet... ha ha

Oh yeah mph was in the back of my mind but thought i'd leave it out for now.

dawsinho - 21 Jan 2005 12:42 - 11 of 315

Oh yeah, big well done to legend, eric and bosley for their picks last time round!

hampi_man - 21 Jan 2005 12:44 - 12 of 315

I'm very new to this but will enjoy watching from the sidelines and hopefully
learn some more along the way
Best of luck to all
HM

dawsinho - I notice its the modest ones who tend to win - look at Hoggard!

hampi_man - welcome to give it a go: no qualifications needed; in fact, they get in the way!

EWRobson - 21 Jan 2005 13:55 - 22 of 315

Welcome Sandrew, Dil, snakey, petralva, Kivver. Up to 13 and counting!
Dil: that's really impressive; an investor who actually holds cash (cash would have come in 4th out of 11 the first time round!
Snakey: relieved to see someone else still holds the faith with CFP
petralva: see now why the MDW price has come back: to give you a decent buy price!
Kivver: a run on SPS which may end up as bookie's favourite!
good luck one and all!
Eric
