LIBYA - updating news

cynic - 02 Mar 2011 11:48

starting this thread, which i hope will be short-lived, to keep the board up to date with latest reports gleaned from the net

cynic - 14 Mar 2011 17:06 - 50 of 685

you must admit it took a while to filter through and i would hazard that even now it is not as vicious as you anticipated ..... in reality, neither london not dow are down that badly

========
bahrain
complete lockdown
airport is closed (sealed off is prob more accurate) and the streets deserted ..... about 100 saudi tanks crossed the causeway, with about half going off to guard the palace at riffa and the balance parked up at the airport

the causeway is also probably closed too, not that anyone much wants to use it for now

FTSE closes firmly lower as Japan disaster spooks markets
StockMarketWire.com
END-OF-DAY REPORT: Headline shares closed firmly lower, as investors assessed the economic realities of the disaster in Japan, and fret over news of escalating violence in Libya, with losses broad-based.

At the close of business, the FTSE100 was down 53.43 points at 5,775.24 with the FTSE250 off 59.87 points at 11,349.66 and the FTSE Smallcaps 32.27 points lower at 3,189.36.

Do you comprehend Firmly lower

Mr.C is it that hard to admit that you were wrong. I suppose all you holdings were blue.

cynic - 14 Mar 2011 17:28 - 52 of 685

nearly all were up earlier in the day, but sadly only about 1/3 were at the end ..... and yes, i also took out a modest dow short this afternoon ..... did you marry money and mouth at all?

Bernard M - 14 Mar 2011 17:32 - 53 of 685

You should change your name to Mr bullshit as you talk it. Do you actually know anything about trading, or are you a keyboard knowall warrior.

Nearly all were up utter rubbish. Stocks have been down since 08.00 this morning.

cynic - 14 Mar 2011 17:56 - 54 of 685

do you want me to list my stocks that finished up? ...... more than happy to do so (8/22 and also sold 2 that were up on the day at the time of sale), even if you found yourself more like a battered codpiece

==========

i'll save you the trouble of asking my little codpiece .....

COV - GKP - MXP - PFC - RIO - RKH - XEL - DOW (short)
+ sold HOIL and TW.

happy now? ..... i do hope not

Bernard M - 15 Mar 2011 07:25 - 55 of 685

Big falls today on all indices. Expect FTSE down over 125 points at open.

Fred1new - 15 Mar 2011 08:19 - 56 of 685

BM> the New Falling Charger.

cynic - 15 Mar 2011 08:20 - 57 of 685

HUGE falls, but nothing like as large as BM would like to think in london .... but definite shell shock

Bernard M - 15 Mar 2011 08:51 - 58 of 685

I suppose your stocks are all blue Mr C

cynic - 15 Mar 2011 09:03 - 59 of 685

i wish ..... see ftse thread
trust your own portfolio was full of short positions

Bernard M - 15 Mar 2011 09:19 - 60 of 685

How much is the FTSE down, is it 125 points

cynic - 15 Mar 2011 09:22 - 61 of 685

try the correct thread

Bernard M - 15 Mar 2011 09:25 - 62 of 685

Yes Boss, I mean Sir. Is you handle short for a womans Vagina.

cynic - 15 Mar 2011 15:01 - 63 of 685

silly ass! ...... meanwhile, on balance i think the EU/NATO (or whatever) response is pretty pathetic, but i guess pretty much as might have been expected ....

G8 nations have warned Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi he faces "dire consequences" if he ignores the basic rights of his people but stopped short of recommending a no-fly zone

Bernard M - 15 Mar 2011 15:14 - 64 of 685

Tell Gadaffe the UK will give him an ASBO if he does not behave.

cynic - 15 Mar 2011 15:33 - 65 of 685

almost like that isn't it

cynic - 16 Mar 2011 08:34 - 66 of 685

bahrain
just been speaking to my resident
FCO advice for nationals to leave is standard in any country that declares a state of emergency.
there are perhaps 6,000 protesters in total, most of whom are now armed - how would that be??
situation, certainly outside central manama, is quiet but uncomfortable as may be imagined

aldwickk - 16 Mar 2011 08:46 - 67 of 685

Who's next Dubai ?

Bernard M - 16 Mar 2011 08:59 - 68 of 685

South London chavs

cynic - 16 Mar 2011 09:12 - 69 of 685

lots of reasons why the religious and not necessarily extremist muslims would take exception to dubai and its lifestyle, burj khalifa etc .... however, though a one-off terrorist attack is not impossible, protests as elsewhere in the region are unlikely, not least because barely 30% of the population are emiratis, the rest being expats of various hues
